    Central Fire Station Hq

    Each station comprised of 3 watches red white and blue copied from the Royal Navy watch system as quite a lot of the personnel were ex Navy between the wars. There was a large brass bell in the back wash(appliance room) which was rung to call the watch to parade.

    Anyone remember the fatal house fire in Frankfort St in the early 60s which took the lives of 4 children in a back to back house whilst their parents were out.     Hi Astonian, yes my wife is related to Broadhurst's who started out in the scrap metal business it was her grandfather's brothers who started the business they asked him to join them but he thought it was too risky as he had a job at the BSA and a family to feed. Bad decision? Aggie
