    Birmingham boxers

I still know a few who worked at WB when Johnny worked there, it has been suggested that one of the boxing trainers at that time was a guy called Jock Sneden. No idea if this is right, but I pass it on.

    C W S Factory, Tyseley

Welcome! The Avenue was, in fact still is right near to Acocks Green railway station and as I said the Co-op factory as close to the next station on the line, Tyseley. Your great uncle would almost certainly have cycled to work.

    C W S Factory, Tyseley

This Co-op factory was just a short walk from Tyseley station which in turn was just one stop from either Acock's Green station or Spring Rd station, depending which line you were travelling along!

    Rednal House

There were also graves of nuns at Oratory House, and in 1960's tales of hauntings! Chairs being moved around in the Chapel and a builder working on renovations drove off at great speed "never" to be seen again, leaving behind his work tools!

    Rednal House

No. Oratory house is nearer the Lickeys. Years ago I had a friend whose parents were caretakers at Oratory House so have had a good look around! Yes Cardinal Newman is buried there. Sorry not a good map but Oratory House bottom left. Rednal House top right.

    Birmingham boxers

Never a fan of the boxing scene but I knew Johnny on his way up in 1950's and I worked in Tanworth and knew the Bell where Jack Hood had been the gaffer but I thought he had retired by then the 1960's. To complete my total knowledge of boxing such as it is I went to school with Cartwright...

Didn't realise that Larry Joyce transferred to Birfield, worked with him at Chester Rd. 1970-1975. Wasn't there also a husband/wife in Production Control surname Beddows? Maybe Stuart? Welcome to BHF!

    Slab cake

I had a Saturday job while at school (1950's) with the local Scribbans bread man, we often had precut individual slices of cherry genoa cake wrapped in cellophane available to sell.

    Slab cake

I associate the name Scribban's-Kemp with slab cake, their cherry genoa was delicious. https://www.gracesguide.co.uk/Scribbans_and_Co

    Blundells of Aston

Near the "Vine" on Green Lane Small Heath the cinema was turned into a cash and carry shop, was that a Blundell's? May be not. S&U was on Egbaston St. opposite the Midland Red bus station. In 1980's I would occasionally see a childhood hero, Gil Merrick, who at this time worked for S&U, didn't...
