    Military - WWI

Bit puzzled here Suzanne. I found the birth for Elenzar Terry in 1899 so the name is right, but the only medal card I can find is for a 901802 George Terry who is in the RFA (TA) perhaps the numbers 901802 and 109802 and the surname Terry are just a coincidence, as is George Terry being in...

    Absent Voters List

Hi Zippy. The medal cards are off "Ancestry", as for the service records, thats where the problem is. Two thirds of all WWI service records were lost to fire in WWII, very few have survived. I have checked for you, and neither of your ancester records have survived I'm afraid Barrie.

Birmingham Weston Road Workhouse & Cape Schools

Hi Kat. if you Google "Birmingham Workhouse" there is loads of information on the subject. My Gt Grandad James Oldfield was in Birmingham Workhouse in 1913, so it was still open then. Barrie.

Birmingham Weston Road Workhouse & Cape Schools

The workhouse was situated in Western Road, and then later the Geriatric Hospital was on the same site I believe. I think that U.D. refers to Urban District.

    Hockley Brook floods

Thats a great link to an interesting site, thank you for posting it Terry. As I said previously, after heavy rain it got quite noisy in our back kitchen, not surprising considering what the author of that article found in the brook. :D

    Hockley Brook floods

The kitchen of our house in Hunters Road was built over Hockley Brook, it ran under the kitchen floor. After heavy rain you could hear oil drums and stuff banging and clanking down the brook. I expect there were the odd dead bodies as well. Happy days. :)

    My Gt Grandmother

Do you think that Sarah refused to buy some lucky heather off a woman up the Black Patch, and had a curse put on her, and that's why everything connected with her goes to pot? :) I can't understand that tree either, we should be able to contact the owner of a public tree. Later today I will...

    My Gt Grandmother

My apologies Shera, I should have mentioned that death. James had a brother named William, he married a lady named Sarah Griffiths, and that is the lady on the death cert (I have that cert) Fancy two brothers both marrying a girl named Sarah, you couldn't make it up could you.
