Aston Road North - Modern & Old Together

These are brilliant Dave, a very clever and effective way of showing what used to be where. Looking down a street these days it can be difficult to pinpoint exactly where the previous buildings or street alignment (in cases where it has been changed) were. Very impressive! Simon

    New Birmingham library plans

Nice photos. It looks like the new library is a creature from outer space trying to gobble up the hall of memory:disgust: As modern architecture goes the Alpha Tower is easy on the eye.. Simon

The Day Our Mom Ended Up In Court

Brilliant Lyn can just picture the scene:smug: That reminds me of when my sister went off to her then boyfriends birthday party, held at his parents house while they were away. He was two-timing her and his other girlfriend turned up as well. Everything was fine until reality dawned on the two...

Off to town on the 53 bus

Very interesting Roland. The history of the routes is always of interest to me as well as the vehicles themselves. The suffix letter E is of course still used today for short workings - unique to Brum I think (now spread to other West Midlands areas due to a common operator) Simon

    Aston Manor Transport Museum

Thankfully the museum has found new premises and moving the collection has been in full swing for a number of weeks now. The new building is in Shenstone Drive, Aldridge about 300 yards away from the previous place which at least means transport costs were kept to a minimum. Its early days yet...

    Trafficators

Great to see the restoration coming on so well. Along with Birmingham City Transport the livery of West Bromwich Corporation has to be one of the finest that I have ever seen. Simon

    Gravelly Hill

There is some great photos there and wonderful cine film. The trams are of special interest to me but all the street scenes are great too. What a difference a couple of decades can make.... Simon

    Occupations That Have Faded Away

Hi Bill, I had the great pleasure of travelling on Walsall 862 at Dudley back in May, the trip had been in some doubt as a crew wasn't available but myself and my friend hung around for as long as we possibly could in the hopes of a trolleybus appearing with me even considering offering my...

    Digbeth Photos

Really impressive photos. I haven't had a chance to explore that area of the canal network yet but the photo above is encouraging me to try to fit it in on my next visit. Although a lot has been lost there are at least still some treasures left. Simon

    Omnibus depot, Alcester Street.

There is a good book on Birmingham's Horse Transport which I have myself, it might have that information. I will look it up when I get a chance if someone doesn't get there before me.... By coincidence I was staying on Alcester Street a couple of weeks back! Simon

    Birmingham Buses Part 2

The van is a Bedford O-type but the registration is not readable. The BCT bus is of course a Crossley DD42. Simon

    Vulcan Bomber Fly-past

It sadly probably will Eric. The Lancaster is however considerably cheaper to keep airworthy than a Vulcan so at least that is in its favour. Simon

    Midland Red Around Birmingham.

The trio of BMMO D9's are definitely in Digbeth yard. I have several photos in my collection taken at the same place. Great photos. Simon

    Vulcan Bomber Fly-past

I was only wondering a few days ago how long they would be able to keep this Vulcan flying for, I expected this announcement to come at some stage but not quite so soon, pity... Simon

    Les ross retires

I was delighted to meet Les Ross twice over the past few days on my latest visit to Brum. He gave a very entertaining question and answer session at the Museum and Art Gallery on Monday that I came upon by chance. Then yesterday when I was walking through the Mailbox I went into the BBC centre...

    Items that have faded away

Black & White is still on the go yes. Can't say i've seen Lemon Heart Rum or Three Swallows over here anyway. Lots of stouts but Nourishing Stout I would have to check... Johnny Walker bottles are indeed square. Simon

    Vulcan Bomber Fly-past

Sorry G but i'm not sure of its full history. Simon

    Trafficators

Hi Bill, If I come across any (unlikely but it might just happen) I will let you know. I had a visit back in May and the Daimler looked really well and coming along nicely. Simon

    Vulcan Bomber Fly-past

Vulcan XH558, the only airworthy example of its type, costs a huge amount of money to keep it in flying condition. The group responsible for it had a massive fundraising campaign to get it back in the air and now have to keep fundraising to keep it there. Whatever it costs is worth it to see...

    Items that have faded away

I can still get tubs of Stork in Dublin, only use it for baking. Remember having it forced on me as a child when we had no butter, vile is right
