Battle Of The Somme 1 July Centenary

My Great Grandmother had 6 brothers and 4 of them lost their lives in the First World War, i'm currently researching them but unfortunately its such a common surname that the results are going to take a lot of weeding out, not helped by the fact that i'm not sure yet which four perished. Its...

Gale Newspaper Archive (the One You Can Access At Some Libraries"

I worked on a project here in the library (Trinity College Dublin) almost exactly 10 years ago in conjunction with Thompson Gale to add to their online collection. Back then it was microfilmed and they provided me with a long list of several thousand books and pamphlets that they wished to copy...

    Birmingham Central Library 1974 - 2015

The image might just represent somebody turning into a skeleton while waiting for their books to be delivered or their requests answered...... (me being cynical) :D Simon

    Whitmore Street

That's a lovely photo of Hockley garage with a Guy Arab emerging from it. By all accounts it was a great garage to work in and a pity that it has closed but at least the building still stands. The photo would have been taken between 1967 and 1969. Simon

Summer Meet Up 2 July 2016 At The Bull

I really wish I was able to make this meet but as luck would have it i'm not over in Brum until the following Friday, as many of you know my planned visits tend to tie in with running days at Aldridge (formerly Aston Manor) Transport Museum, the annual open day being 10th July. Simon

    Air raid shelters

There appears to be another shelter to the right although its facing the other way. The occupants of both were probably lucky survivors. Simon

    Hill Street, Birmingham.

It doesn't do anything for me either, looks a bit like the inside of a box of After Eights with all those black "sleeves"!! Simon

    Library Of Birmingham 2013

We have a copy of Shakespeare's First Folio here too, I only got it out for a reader to consult a few days ago. Ours has all the plays bound together in the one volume. Simon

    Charabanc Outing

Yes indeed most had folding hoods of varying strength and effectiveness! Speaking with my bus enthusiast hat on the first in the line isn't actually a charabanc but all the others are... Simon

    Erdington

A lot of bus enthusiasts ask that a bus is present at their funerals or in many cases the families think it appropriate to have a vintage bus there so my guess is that is whats happening here. The bus is a lovely Guy Arab III that is carrying two different registrations.

    Last day of the Mercs

Still not found unfortunately. Nine of the Mercs however made it out in service on Monday but it was down to seven on Tuesday so these are their very final days. They served most areas of the city in the last 17 plus years and for me the bus scene will be a lot less interesting with their...

    The No.14 bus

Hi Dave, the Birmingham Ultimate machines were 5 roll machines. Wolverhampton used them as well as did many operators outside the West Midlands. Cheers Simon

Out of our area but, any suggestions to what was this bus?

Very difficult one to call as its so derelict and the view very limited.
