Morris Commercial Cars. Foundry Lane, Smethwick.

I always think that the Imperial double decker had a very impressive style radiator. I don't think any survive at all unfortunately. Simon

    Showbus 2016

I didn't get a chance to go this time, instead I will be travelling over for the event at Wythall on 9th October which will feature, among others, lots of old Brum buses right back to the 1930's. Simon

    Witton Aston Manor Tram Depot

Just a small correction Graham, the museum is at Shenstone Drive, Aldridge (just in case anyone searching for it gets confused). One of the very last acts that our directors did before we were forced out of Witton tram shed was to get the building listed, even though we were being evicted there...

    Camp Hill Flyover

Great set of photos of the last days of the flyover and the start of traffic chaos that seems to continue to this day, certainly anytime i'm in the area anyway!! Simon

    Birmingham Newspapers 1939-1945

They designed a hood to sit over those overhead wire contacts so that sparks couldn't be seen from above. The bombers being built look to be Whitleys. Simon

Urinal At Junction Ab Row, Prospect Row, Howe Street

The Ford Transit as seen in the photo was built from 1965 onwards so we can accurately date this photo to between then and the removal of the urinal in 1971, I would guess the photo was taken closer to the later date. Simon

    kenyon street police station

Nice photo Lyn but the date must be marked wrongly. The car furthest left is a Mk3 Ford Cortina, they entered production about 1970/71 (some car expert will confirm) so I would be inclined to say early 1970's. Simon

    Witton Square

Going from Witton in the direction of town the bus usually carried the number 7 and went across to terminate in Portland Road. Going in the opposite direction towards Perry Common it was the number 5 and for a time there was a 5A. Short workings to town from Perry Common could have been 5 as...

    Montague Street Aston

Going by the cars I would agree with 1980's. What a fine street it was too, the second photo is very impressive and its a great pity those fine houses weren't refurbished rather than demolished. Simon

    Elmdon Airport Birmingham International Airport

Nice photo Pedrocut, the plane is a De Havilland Dragon. Simon

    Ex-birmingham Cable Tramcar

Its not something I have heard before Mike and its the kind of thing I would definitely remember if I had. I have a couple of friends among the transport group at the BCLM so must ask them when I get a chance. Simon.

    Grosvener Road

Nice photo Bob. That is definitely a converted bus, most likely from the 1920's going by the styling. Simon

    Moor Street Warehouse

A great photo with a lot happening. I always enjoy trying to date photos. The trolleybuses finished on 30th June 1951 so its obviously before that but i'm guessing not too long before so about 1950 I would say. Simon

    The Number Eight Bus

Both well recommended books. The 8 was subject to a lot of diversions postwar due to the redevelpment of the city and photos of the buses taken during that time often show demolition and rebuilding in progress as well as new road structures being put in place. Even if your not a bus nut like...

    The Number Eight Bus

Good photo, just a small point but the caption leaves out the "F" at the end of the registration, 3694 was registered KOX 694F as it was new in 1967, delivered to Cotteridge garage I believe. Simon

    Birmingham air raids

Well deserved medals they were too, driving a burning bus is no mean feat and at the time every available bus counted with new deliveries "frozen" or very carefully rationed out by the Ministry of Supplies. Many thanks for those details Astonian. Simon

    Black Country Museum

I will keep a look out for you Lyn:). The unchained tickets are fantastic value, its a great place to visit. Simon

    Black Country Museum

This coming weekend, 9th & 10th July is Black Country Weekend and the Newcomen engine will also be in steam. I plan on going on the Saturday myself and spending the day there, hopefully catching up with some friends in the transport group, enjoying the atmosphere and having a pint of ale in the...

    Bordesley Station

Very nice photos, obviously posed and excellent detail. There are a lot of levers in that signal box. Simon
