No More Buses In Corparation St

I will have to make sure and get over for plenty of photos before the changes take place. Yes Paul the Dublin system is good, I was sceptical at first but last year they opened a branch within 30 mins walk from my house and some days I do use it and have been won over. There are two main...

    Aston Manor Transport Museum

I can't see a queue forming to sign up to that! Really hope that whoever does eventually take it over will be sympathetic to its history. A major snag is that it's current internal layout makes it suitable for very few uses, holding vehicles is one and a transport museum is another - something...

Book: Birmingham then and now by Mark Norton

I bought it on my last visit. I's a superb book with brilliant photos.

    Get well Tony Iommi

Black Sabbath have released a statement today in which they revealed that Tony Iommi their legendary guitarist and inventor of the heavy metal riff has been diagnosed with lymphoma and is discussing treatment with doctors. Although caught in it's early stages this is a serious illness and we are...

    Brummie sayings & language

Interestingly my late Grandfather always called a funnel a tun dish, he was from Co. Kilkenny. Never heard anyone use it since though. Dave's definition is of course a true tun dish but my Grandfather used it for all types of funnel. Simon

    WMPTE Bedford Towing Lorry

I can't read the number on it either nor do I have details to hand i'm afraid. That's quite a small lorry to be towing such a heavy bus. 6301 had a Leyland engine from new but later gained a Gardner. Seeing as it was being towed it probably still had the Leyland engine at that stage!!

    Camp Hill Flyover

Hi Mike, I will see what I can do, they are not my photos. One is of a BCT Daimler and the other a Midland Red D9 both coming down the off-ramp. I can't find a date when the flyover was dismantled, some sources say about 1989 while others think it was a couple of years before that. Simon (6918)

    Camp Hill Flyover

I bought several bus photos in recent times featuring the flyover but until reading this thread I didn't know where it was. I have to admit that even seeing a photo of a bus going over it makes me nervous but obviously it was solid enough to take them safely.

    The Outer Circle

Yes Viv, they were known as "trafficators" lots of vehicles had them at the time. Interestingly the "No Spitting" signs have vanished over the course of time. Simon

    The Outer Circle

Lovely photos. Looks like one of the Crossleys lurking in the background of one photo.

Yet another one gone, it's got to the stage where there is precious little left......

Birmingham Bus On the Outer Circle On The 11-11-11

It does run every 8 minutes or so Astonian. One thing I noticed when I used it earlier this year is that if a bus is running behind time it becomes "unload only" so doesn't pick up passengers again until it recovers its time. The bus behind (which is often right behind the late running bus)...

    Electric Milk Floats

It had a very short working life really, many electrics lasted for decades. I like the crates of empties stored on the roof, can just image the result of going up or down a steep incline!!!

On the 11th Hour of the 11th Day

Here in Ireland wearing the poppy has been fraught with difficulties over the years. For many decades somebody wearing a poppy out in public would at the very least risk verbal abuse or possibly even assault, in certain parts of the country it might have even cost them their life. In recent time...

    Electric Milk Floats

Really interesting photo. Thought I knew a reasonable amount about milk floats but this is a new one on me. The driver has to walk in front rather than travel on it, the controls being on the top of the tiller exactly like those rubbish carts that are used in cities today.

    Old tractor

I would certainly agree that it's not a Massey-Ferguson as I am very familiar with them.
