    Pubs Of The Past

Thanks for that Mike. Is there a Holloway Head thread like there is for Summer Lane in which case we can reconstruct the road brick-by-brick maybe? Looking at the original photo and the incline I assumed that the location would be further on down the hill-100 yards possibly but on the same...

    Pubs Of The Past

Recently uploaded onto one of the architectural design sites is this aerial photograph which focuses on Holloway Head but covers a great deal of the older western section of the city centre. The date claimed is the same as Stictcher's date for that of the Unicorn, but I think it may be of a few...

Where in Birmingham was this taken ??

Million to one chance, but directly above the No Waiting sign but in the distance, looks like the very earliest of Indian-or was it Oriental- take-aways at least in that area during the 1950's. Stafford Street way?

    Pubs Of The Past

Can I provide a "modern" photograph to beef up the history of the pub and the location surrounding. Dennis Williams has provided a 1910's/1920's view on the Suffolk Street thread and maybe someone can reprint it here. My contribution is from the 1940's (during the War in fact) of the very same...

    John Bright Street

Here's the item promised, with Chetwyns on the left.It appears that the purpose of the photograph at the time was to capture Hill Street, and the extensive roadworks at the time to make a turn into there easier.

    John Bright Street

I have a photo of this junction in Chetwins days, but you can only see the "Chet" in the name and therefore only half the frontage. Is that any good anyone?

    Great Russell Street

Lyn, you don't happen to have the two pages BELOW which would connect with your posting do you?

    Pubs Of The Past

Thanks for that Mike. Much clearer now, having worked out the difference between Wheeleys Lane and Wheeleys ROAD which is on the other side of what is now Lee Bank Middleway.

Moor Street and its Historic buildings and pubs

Here's a companion photo to the one on the right. Its not same picture obviously, but at the time there was just ONE kerbstone left holding up a bus stop maybe?

Park Street Pubs and Hotels and historic buildings

Dennis, sorry for the delay. Have been trying to find the very photo of the Phoenix in Park treet to make up the posting. Can't copy it across, but the link is here: www.flickr.com/photos/co-ophistory/4053273381/ It appears that the photograph provider doesn't have a knowledge of its...

Map of where Spaghetti Junction is now

The MACE archive short video catalogue of bygone Midlands has only very recently posted a short excerpt of where they claim Spaghetti Junction now stands. Maybe friends on here can verify the actual junction pictured: www.macearchive.org.uk/Media.html?Title=4912#

Wolverhampton 1946 trolleybuses bus steet scenes

Many thanks for that posting Bammot. A number of my work colleagues were trolleybus drivers in Wolverhampton in the 1960s, and I am sure they will find the scenes very interesting.

    Selly Oak Bristol Road

Originally called simply "The Oak", it opened 26 March 1923 seating 1111 exactly. Re-modelled inside 1935 in time for that years' Christmas bookings and included an enlargement of the stage and a re-furnished balcony. 1505 seats by then. Re-named the ABC Selly Oak in 1965, but not quite clear...
