Kirby Beard and Co hook and eye manufacturer.

John - Thank you for looking this up for me - I see you found Kerby, the alternative spelling. I was a bit thick and looked only for Kirby. Syliva - This information is interesting as I was wondering if there could possibly be a connection with the Kirby grip. The trouble is I'm not sure how to...

Kirby Beard and Co hook and eye manufacturer.

On the 1851 census, I have a William Kirby, Lower Tower Street, hook and eye manufacturer, employing 100 women and girls. I have looked in Historial Directories but found nothing. I did, however, find a reference to Kirby, Beard & Company and wondered if there might possibly be a connection. Can...

    Holy Trinity Church Bordesley.

Another super picture. How interesting to see both bus and tram in the same shot. I suppose the change over from trams to buses happened gradually. Much as I like looking at trams, can't say I miss them as I was always sick when I rode on them. :-[

St Peter's Chapel St Peter's Place

Thanks for the picture Postie. I recognise this place from when I last visited Brum but didn't realise it was the possible site of St. Peter's. Barrie - my gx2 grandparents were married here too which is why I would like a picture. Kenh - I'll look for this book next time I'm in town or perhaps...

Workhouse Infirmary 99 Dudley Rd 1 Western Road

I have just discovered that my great grandfather was born in the workhouse, Dudley Road in 1866. Does anyone know if there is a list of inmates so that I can see how long they were there please?

    Balsall Heath.

Chris I know the restaurant you mean but can't think what it was called. It was set back a little wasn't it but, sorry, my memory fails me again! Robert (you clearly have no problems with your memory) - the river you speak of is the River Rea which ran behind our house in Longmore Street also...

    Balsall Heath.

How great to read your memories of Balsall Heath Robert. I lived in Longmore Street (I'm sure you remember where this is) and used to frequent the Luxor often. We used to go to the Saturday morning kids show and a couple of evenings as well. I loved Betty Grable and Betty Hutton films. My best...

The New Bull Ring (mixed feelings)

I love the new Bull Ring and visit as often as time allows from where I now live in Cheltenham. I worked in the offices of John Laing who built the previous Bull Ring and was told I should be proud to work on such a prestigious development but frankly I thought it was dreadful. The original Bull...

St. Mary's Church, Whittle Street, Birmingham.

Thanks for the information Jerry. It makes you wonder what happens to the graves and their contents? They must go somewhere I would have thought. Is there a way to find out do you know?

St. Mary's Church, Whittle Street, Birmingham.

Thank you postie. I should have realised it not Whittle Street but that was the information as given to me. I deserve the Ex-Brummie Failed award. I would like to visit this church if it's still in existencewhen I next visit Brum but a photo would be great for my family records. You are always...
