    Balsall Heath.

Hi Catherine, Yes, I lived in Longmore Street by Dr. Deary's surgery (I have probably incorrectly spelled his name) and the Chocolate Box sweet shop. I went to Mary Street School and Hope Street. Your memories of Balsall Heath are very clear and accurate - I enjoyed reading your post. Many...

Catherine, Your post mentioned my cousins Mary & Denise Henn. I'm Gillian Henn. Do you remember my grandfather who ran the greengrocer's shop in Clevedon Road with my uncle Dennis. I found a picture of Clevedon Road which shows Dennis outside the shop getting into his car but I'm not sure if...

    Boer War deaths.

Can anyone please advise me on how I can discover if an ancestor was killed during the Boer War. I have searched and searched for this ancestor's death and can only assume that he died in that war as it is the right period. Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks for all your responses. I'm not very good at poetry but tried very hard to capture the flavour of how things felt back then. Postie: What a great picture. Jill:)

A Day at the Lickey Hills. We’re off to the Lickies for a family day out, We travel by tram, how it shakes us about, I’ll probably be sick, I usually am, But that’s one of the perils of going by tram. When we arrive we rush to the fair, Have a go on the swing boats, the wind in our...

    Workhouse birth

My great grandfather was born in 1866 and it states Dudley Road Workhouse on his birth certificate so no display of finer feelings there I'm afraid.

    Fish and Chips Ballsall Heath

Sue, I wish my mother was still alive as she would have been able to tell you a great deal about your g.grandmother I think. I can only remember buying chips from her and that she was hard working. I will contact other relatives of mine in case they know more and will send you a PM. I had a...
