    Jackson Mabel and Ann

Hi, I am interested in hearing from anyone related to Mabel and Ann Jackson, daughters of Eliza (nee Moseley) and Thomas Jackson who in their later years lived at 60 Livingstone Road, Kings Heath. Ann married an Arthur Woodman Marlow, but I have not been able to identify any records for Mabel...

    Hunt Ann and Thomas

Sorry Solihull Chic, firstly for late reply and secondly because this Ann is not my relative. My Ann was born in 1838, did marry a Thomas Hunt in 1856, but had the maiden name Moseley and not Wage. For months I have been on the wrong track!

    Hunt Ann and Thomas

Yes, This is the marriage that is the focus of my attention. The only fly in the ointment is that Joseph was a brass founder, and is not usualLy described as a labourer. The problem with the family that appears in the 1861 census is that Ann is described as being born in Beoley, Worcs. Ann is...

    Hunt Ann and Thomas

It seems I do not know much for certain! What I do know is that my Ann Moseley was born in 1838 to Joseph and Ann Moseley of Howe Street, Birmingham. She disappears from census records for her parents after 1851. I found a marriage record for Ann Moseley and Thomas Hunt for 1856 with the father...

    Hunt Ann and Thomas

Right. Bojalu, you have confirmed I am on the wrong track! My Ann (nee Moseley) also born 1838 married a Thomas Hunt in 1856. I incorrectly assumed that the 1861 census record was my interest. Sadly, while the dates aligned, you have revealed that it is the wrong family. Hopefully census...

    Hunt Ann and Thomas

OMG! That is amazing. All evidence points to Ann Hunt being my great great great grandfather Joseph Moseley's daughter. I was really struggling on tracing her and this information helps immensely. Do you know when Thomas died?

    Hunt Ann and Thomas

I am trying to find an 1871 census record for Ann (born 1838) and Thomas Hunt who had two children Selina (born about 1857) and Henry (about 1861). In 1861 they lived in Alcester Street, Birmingham, but the trail then runs cold. I know Selina married in 1876, when she was living at Jones Street...

    Compasses Tavern Alcester Street, Aston

Thanks. It is the one at 142 Alcester Street, but described as being in the parish of Aston?

    Compasses Tavern Alcester Street, Aston

Hi In 1861 my ancestors lived next door to the Compasses Tavern in Alcester Street, Aston. I have been unable to find any information about this pub. There was a Compass Inn in Brearley Street, but this is not the same location. Any one heard of it?

    Moseley Walter

Ladylinda, a bit belated this, but you helpfully provided the above info. I am having difficulty establishing what happened to Dorothy Moseley. Do the records you have available record her as also living at 181 Clifford Street in 1920. Thanks.

    Emmigration via Belfast

Pollypops, it appears they travelled a number of times between 1907 and 1914 before finally settling in Canada for good. It cant have been cheap doing this, so that is why I am speculating that living in Belfast was somehow advantageous.

    Emmigration via Belfast

Hi, Not a Birmingham question as such, but it does relate to Birmingham people. Thought I would try this forum first. I have discovered that the head of the family of my ancestors that emmigrated to Canada lived for at least two years in Belfast and other family members appear to have...

    Family tree maker software/template

Ok thanks. Have downloaded My Heritage, but free one only allows about three generations max to be viewed. Premium is advertised at only £4.50 a month, but you are charged £95 upfront! work that one out. Will try Roots Magic.

    Family tree maker software/template

Hi, This must have been asked before, but I could not find this by the search tool. I am looking for a free or relatively cheap online family tree maker or template which allows a 'one page' view and print option showing all generations. Commercial software, such as My Heritage require you...

    Mill Lane, Northfield

thanks both. yes, Henry had emigrated to Canada and the rest followed soon after. Anton and Emma's marriage certificate in 1905 has them as living at 5 Mill Lane. My grandfather lived in Handsworth and used to visit Northfield as a child; his family said it was like the countryside to them.

    Mill Lane, Northfield

Horsencart, the names are Henry Cole and Anton Christensen if that is any help. Cheers.

    Mill Lane, Northfield

Thanks Polypops, this is very interesting as it suggests my ancestors were probably the first occupiers, and also it appears to be part of a general building programme following the expansion of the railway network.

    Mill Lane, Northfield

I am trying to identify any historical material on Mill Lane. My ancesters lived at 1 and 5 Mill lane betwen about 1905 and 1915, having moved from the Cadbury Estate. They were employed as piano case/cabinet makers. The original houses do not appear to exist anymore, so I am unable to take...

    Moseley Walter

Ladylinda could you please tell me where you obtained all this detail. I am trying to piece together other family members into the 20th century and would like to form the sort of information on them you provided on Walter. Thanks.
