Many thanks for posting these photos. I am just wondering if any of our members who have access to newspaper archives can find the articles.

    George Dixons Grammar School

I have not read this yet but I thought it would be interesting https://www.historic-uk.com/CultureUK/Girls-Grammar-School-1950s-1960s/

    The Cinephone

Never saw the film Clochemerle but I remember the 1972 TV series. Have actually been to the village on which the story was based Vaux-en-Beaujolais north of Lyon. It even had a Clochemerle sign on the side of a hill.

Good music to listen to on U Tube

Years ago I was in the Plough and Harrow Hotel when Bill Maynard checked in. He had been booked as an after dinner speaker possibly by Round Table and he saw the order of business for the dinner and went off the deep end because they had scheduled someone to speak after him. He said that was an...

    Handsworth

The church in the painting would be St Mary's, Handsworth parish church, which is in Hamstead Road so not the church you knew in Soho Road. However it appears that the church has lost the pinnacles on the tower at some time. The church you are thinking of could be St Michaels Handsworth which is...

    George Dixons Grammar School

I did not recognise the second master who was walking into church with Tom Rumsby. I presume Wally Walker had retired by then. I did recognise L.E.Olver (Leo) at the black board. He was my form master and maths master in 3B, his first year at GD.

Not officially but when we get near the bottom of the page there are sometimes about 20 links to be downloaded.

Songs of Praise today was the UK's favourite Christmas Carols according to an online public vote. The no. 1 was Oh Holy Night so what did the BBC do? They played Andrea Bocelli singing 'Cantique de Noël'. It was the English version that the people voted for not the French version. Not...

    Childhood Memories Of Trains

Never went to Tamworth but many of my school friends did. I never recorded numbers but spent hours on both New Street and Snow Hill just watching. Was the odd one out as I bought the Railway Magazine whereas everyone else bought Trains Illustrated back in the late 1950s

    Rackhams Store

I remember having a juice drink in the Juice Bar. If I remember correctly it was not in the main part of the store proper but in the entrance halfway up North Western Arcade so unless you went there intentionally or just happened to be passing you would not know about it.

    Birmingham buses

I may have mentioned this before. Back in 1970, I co-authored a report recommending the closing of New Street to traffic and making it a pedestrianised street. I went to the Birmingham Post & Mail and looked through their picture library and chose some photos to illustrate the report including...

Telephone history: Telephone Service in Birmingham

The dialling code from Birmingham was KN0 (or KNO) for Knowle and KN4 for Lapworth so from Knowle to Lapworth, I would have expected to be just 4.

This song became in 1967 an anti Vietnam War song aimed at US President Lyndon Johnson and his escalation of the war.

    Elmdon Airport Birmingham International Airport

Mike, I think you would be very unlikely to find any records going back to 1941 as the importance of archives was not recognised until more recent times. I remember once being asked by a security organisation about an employee of the company I was working for about someone who had shown on his...

Good music to listen to on U Tube

This version of Body and Soul by Tony Bennett and Amy Winehouse, which I think I prefer, was released after her death. At that time it also made Tony Bennett to oldest person to appear in the American charts.

    Birmingham buses

Also the city council realised that if they used it as a bus station they would lose it to the WMPTE without compensation so they kept it as part of Paradise Circus.

YMCA has been getting quite a lot of airing over the last few weeks in the US. Trump was trying to dance to it during his election rallies and then when he lost, the Biden supporters were singing and dancing to it in celebration.

You won't be too disappointed then if I point out that the news report was dated 1st August and things have happened since then so the trip has been cancelled
