    I did go to the school on that occasion and the only teacher I saw was Mr George Welford, and I think he may have been the Headmaster then. It was a bit of a dead loss as not many people turned up, the one that did I did not like.

    Astonian, dad broke his leg at the beginning of the war when the horse slipped on the cobbles and he could not get his foot out of the stirups quick enough and the horse fell on his leg. He ended up on the switchbard at Steelhouse lane for a period until it had healed. Dave
