    Water : Birmingham's water supply

Stephanie - have you also looked at the thread Birmingham's water supply? - https://birminghamhistory.co.uk/forum/index.php?threads/birminghams-water-supply.1551/ The photos I posted in #63 (page 4) of the Claerwen Dam under construction may be of interest if you haven't already seen them.

    Birmingham's Clean Air Zone Approved

I didn't misread it Eric - the bit in italics was cut and pasted from the article. They have obviously realised that they have made an error and changed it!

    Birmingham's Clean Air Zone Approved

See https://tinyurl.com/yybje8o4 Now I'm confused (again!) I thought the idea was to ban older polluting vehicles especially diesels. However the article states: Diesel cars older than a EURO 6 (manufactured before 2015) and petrol cars older than EURO 4 (made before 2006) are exempt from the...

    Douglas William

Try FamilySearch (www.familysearch.org) for a start. You will need to register but it's free. There are quite a few William Douglas's married to Hannah but other members of the family listed may put you in the right direction.

    Photo 'Tidy up'

Had a go at the first pic without much luck. Separated the girl from the photo but I can't find any detail around the eyes so this is the best I can do.

    Windows 10

Re Burning DVDs - after several failures using Windows burner I now use Ashampoo Burning Studio Free and so far it's proved to be 100% reliable. https://www.ashampoo.com/uk/gbp/pqu/7110/burning-software/burning-studio-free

    WW2 Mince Pies!

I've also tried to attach the copy of the original but it's too large. I'll try and reduce it and try again! Second attempt - seems to work although it appears to need saving to the computer before opening. Let me know if you can open it OK.

    WW2 Mince Pies!

I received a photocopy of the letter and a transcript which Manx National Heritage have kindly given me permission to post on this site. Their deposit reference number is MS 14532 The date on the postmark is a little indistinct but most likely 1944 (or maybe 1941) and as far as I can make out...

    Latin Urbs Mille Artificiorum

I did Latin at school - even passed 'O' level. However I've yet to find anyone who speaks it fluently - even the Gladiators outside the Colosseum can't!

    Birmingham Gas

I seem to remember that they were silver (or rather aluminium paint). There was one just outside my house which I must have looked at for 20 years but can't guarantee I have recollected the correct colour!

    Birmingham TV

Thanks Lyn. It was after the notice to retune (which I did) that it stopped working! I guess the signal may be weaker than before or my aerial in the loft has fallen over! Will have to investigate. John

    Birmingham TV

For several months I have been unable to view Birmingham TV on Ch 7. I seem to remember it started as BigCentreTV on Ch 8 but retuning the TV brings it up in the list on CH 7 although I get a No Signal notice. Can any of you still receive it? There were some quite interesting programmes...

    Computer help

I've made several DVDs from W10 ISOs recently without a problem, all on standard DVDs. I found some time ago that some DVD burner software was not too reliable and eventually discovered the free version of Ashampoo Burning Studio. Never had a problem since. If you do need an activation key these...
