    Paget Rd School Pype Hayes

I’m back after a couple of months of limited internet access due to a number of issues both technical and personal. I’m catching up with my forum connections and thought I’d rejuvenate this topic. Or try! The blackboard rubber throwing posts insisted I mention my older school days. As...

    My wonderful bedroom

Re: The view from my window Hello, Derek. Just pm'd again. Been offline for a while. My dad was from that area, lived there all his younger life. Maybe the same Higgins you knew? He was a bit older, but who knows?

    Paget Rd School Pype Hayes

I went to Paget Road School Junior and Infants in the 60’s. (Exact dates have deserted me, but around ’63 ‘til 68) Then I passed my eleven-plus and became a ‘grammar grub’. Don’t remember any of the teachers in the pics, but I remember Miss Woodbine, the headmistress, Mr. Williams (we called...

    "old saying"

How about 'I'll knock you into the middle of next week'? or is that not an expression perculiar to us Brummies?

    "old saying"

I can remember going down the garden to my dad and he'd say 'what do you want?' I'd say 'nothing'. He'd say 'well you've got it- take it and go'! I work at a school and say it to the kids now and they haven't a clue! I've seen more intelligent expressions on a stone!

    "old saying"

Re: old sayings? I remember my dad saying 'on the line' as opposed to 'on a line'. I have always assumed (probably incorrectly) it was a reference in some way to the old 'penny hang'.

    "old saying"

Yes, I remember 'up the wooden hill' and 'where's our mom?' would elicit the response 'run of with a black man.' Brought me back a few memories, there, Lynda. How about 'I'll 'ave yer guts fer garters'? Or was that one of me moms Liverpool sayings?

Just got to share this with you all

I know it's an old thread, but I only just came across it. I hope you don't mind, but I posted it in in one of my tech forums humour section, https://help.lockergnome.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=395588#395588 with a link to the original. It is so funny I had to spread it a little!

    Tyburn House Entertainment

Birthplace I contacted the biography website https://www.raymond-froggatt.com/biography.htm and got a reply- born Bordesley Green according to them. Expecting another email telling me which street. Apparently the guy was seeing Ray yesterday (Monday) and was going to ask him.

Paget And me- juniors, anyway. I lived a few doors down in Varley Road, 1957-1980. As for Ray Froggat, I thought he was a great C & W singer. 'White pearl handled gun' comes to mind. Wally Whytton played his songs more than once on Radio 2's C & W show, Thursday nights. My dad reckonded we...

    St Barnabas Church Erdington

Saint Barnabas I ain't a religious guy. Born in Saltley, raised in Pype Hayes. Erdington- me old stompin' ground. I spent many an afternoon in that churchyard as a young man- when the pubs shut at 2:30! (afternoon time, for them that ain't edumicated!) Used to read books there, just 'chill' as...

    Erdington War Memorial

Thanks, Billc Seems this guy has a similar problem! I lived in Erdington (Pype Hayes, actually) from 1957 (born in Saltley) until 1980, when I moved to Tamworth. I can't remember a dedicated memorial. Seems a bit strange, though. We might have expected there to be one. Thanks again.

    Erdington War Memorial

Thanks, Cromwell I am doing a bit of research for a pal and said I would look here. I know there are some gravestones in the cemetary, but I was thinking more of a memorial to all who fell. Seems strange, as my investigations have lead me to believe that Erdington was independant from Brum in...

Hi there, gang. Do any of you well versed Brummies know of a war memorial in Erdington? Was there one that has now gone? Thanks muchly.

    My wonderful bedroom

The view from my window I saw from my window the row of houses opposite. Not much, you might think. There was Mrs. Brown who made the most wonderful bread pudding I have ever tasted. I'm now closing rapidly toward my 50th and nobody has come close. I won't eat bread pudding now, because to...
