    44 Warstone Lane electroplating

Thanks for your recommendation. Unfortunately the Toronto library system does not have the book you mentioned by Catell, Ely & Jones and its quite expensive to buy ($140.00 + shipping). If anyone has a copy of "The Birmingham Jewllery Quarter: An architectural survey of Manufactories" , I'd...

    Economic changes Birmingham

Thanks for your information. My great grandfather left England around 1889. I was wondering why a skilled tradesman would take his wife and childern to Canada. Perhaps the international competition was making it increasing difficult to make a living in Birmingham.

    44 Warstone Lane electroplating

Thanks so much Mike. I never would have found the website you mentioned. I knew that 44 Warstone was still a business in the Jewllery Quarter but I couldn't find any other information. I'm trying to create a family story and this type of historic and archetectural information is exactly what...

    44 Warstone Lane electroplating

My 2xgreat grandfather John Burley lived and ran his electroplating business at 44 Warstone from about 1862. For at least the next 20 years. Does anyone know when the housing on Warstone lane was built? Would it have been a new house in 1862? Was the housing built for artisans? I read that...

    Economic changes Birmingham

    Electoplaters

Does anyone know or have any suggestions on how I could find find out when then electoplating trade started in decline in the Jewellry Quarter. My 2xgreat grand father was an electroplate master, and his son became an electroplater. About 1889 the son Benjamin left England moving his family to...

    Moseley Road Weslayan Church

I would like any information about the above church. From an obituary that was forwarded to me, I was told that the Weslayan church opened in 1872. William Burley was one of the original trustees. However I've only been able to find a Moseley Road methodist church which was obiviously built...

    iron founders

Hi Rod Thanks for the great photos. Obviously no one could do that kind of work in their home. I heard that iron founders use molds but from your photo I can see how unlikely that would be. the reason I thought that they may work in their home is that on the 1861 census under the occupation...

    iron founders

This is my first posting so hope I'm doing this right. I'd like to know more about what being an iron founder about 1848 would entail. What kind of things would one make. My 3xgreat grand father was an iron founder and when he died his wife took over their business. I'm just trying to...
