    Help needed reading birth certificate

Hi everyone, the certificates have turned up and thanks to you all I now have a new name to add to my tree. As we (you) established, the time on my Great Grandfathers birth cert indicated he was more than likely a twin and this is how it proved to be... 'Abraham - born Twenty second January...

Unknown North Staffs soldier... possible surname Palmer, Starkey or Nash

Hi Shera brilliant thanks for the list.... I've looked through the absent voters lists too but it's great to see them all in one place. I can see my Grandfather WF (and FW) Nash (KRRC & KSLI) on there along with his brother Frank (RAMC). Also my Great Grandfather David Palmer (RAF) and his son...

Unknown North Staffs soldier... possible surname Palmer, Starkey or Nash

Hi Col thanks for your input. Yes you're probably right about it being a family member. Although I've realised I've made a mistake! Whilst I have recently inherited a huge collection of photos from an Aunt, this actual photo came all the way from the USA! As this lady (a distant relative) is...

    Help needed reading birth certificate

Yes I found this in the National Roll of the Great War on Ancestry, but only relatively recently so really really appreciate you looking and posting this. It's so rewarding finding out about your ancestors (good and bad) and piecing together their lives. I find it strange (but great) that he...

Just had a look at feedback from you all and compared it to the document in question.... and yes definitely 'Price Street Six Ways' Smethwick. Easy when you have it spelt out for you! (no pun intended). Much appreciated all.

Thanks again everyone... and within minutes. Don't know what I'd do without this site! Just off out so not being rude by going quiet. I assumed I'd have to wait a few hours for replies. Any thoughts on the 'six ways'?

    Help needed reading birth certificate

WOW. I'm blown away with all of your input, and if I enjoyed being on this forum before you have all taken it to a new level. Huge huge thanks. The time I would never have guessed at (as like most of you I have never seen it on a birth cert and I assumed it was an address). The twin line of...

    Uniforms of WW1

Re: Unknown WW1 soldiers - Birmingham link? Apologies for posting it in the wrong area. At least it dates the photo more accurately. I must admit I couldn't decide what was 'wrong' with the photo, but guess I was 20 odd years out. Many thanks.

    Uniforms of WW1

Unknown group of soldiers resting besides some tents. Six appear to be wearing overalls. Anyone recognise faces? Possible links to Palmer, Starkey or Nash of Halberton Street or Dugdale Street.

Unknown North Staffs soldier... possible surname Palmer, Starkey or Nash

This was found with an elderly Aunts possessions. It would be great (but I know not likely) to put a name to the face. My Aunty was a Nash, her mother a Palmer originally. Both her parents were from Rotton Park area (Halberton and Dugdale St) prior to, during and after WW1 and into the 1930's...

    Unknown sergeants

I agree with you both, more plausible that they are on a course than POW's. Not likely to be dressed so smartly if they were POW's. Thanks for both your input (Paul and 'maypolebaz'). I'm hunting through old family photos to see if I can match one of the faces but no joy to date. Will post...

    Unknown sergeants

Various Regiments, all Sergeants. Any thoughts on what this photo is all about? POW's? (Just a thought). It was with a collection from an Aunt that died who's parents were both from Birmingham (Dugdale and Halberton Street, off Dudley Road). She was a Nash, mother was originally a Palmer. (see...

    David Palmer (1869 - 1955) seated, and ?

My Great Grandfather David Palmer of Halberton Street off Dudley Road. Although aged 45 in 1914, he volunteered and served on the Western Front in the Gloucestershire Regt. He sustained a gun shot wound to the scalp. Transferred to the Royal Flying Corp (then to the RAF when it was formed in...

    Saint Cuthberts Church

Hi all, Did anyone ever manage to locate a photo of St Cuthbert's church? I'm relatively new to the forum and would like to get a photo as my grandparents were married there in the 1920's.
