    York-Swansea TPO train 1950's

I believe the York - Swansea TPO train went through Birmingham at night. Does anybody know the route it took? I think it went via Aberystwyth where it reversed. Thanks for any info.:)

    Barnstaple Devon

Some of the heavy holiday trains had to be banked at the rear from Mortehoe into Ilfracombe terminus - just memories now.

    Birmingham to Carlisle Railtour 1964.

68A was Carlisle Kingmore shed and engines shopped in Scotland (St Rolox) had their cab side numbers repainted in larger numerals - a local tradition totally unofficial of course, I remember Galateea (spelling?) seen many times and we referred to it as a 'crate' - seen too often! happy memories.

    Birmingham to Carlisle Railtour 1964.

Interesting artistmike, I used to trainspot at 'grassy banks' (Aston Church Road where the Midland crossed the LNWR), at 4ish in the afternoon four loco's coupled together heading toward Water Orton followed by a couple of 'double headers' a short time afterwards. Were these loco movements...

    Moor Street Station

Excellent photo's Gilbert. The 0-6-0 PT shown, we used to call them 'matchboxes' in the 50's It is great to see Moor street returned to life and doing what it was built for!!! Looking at the 'stranded' railway scene of last week, we were a bit hasty scraping all the steam don't you think I...

    British Restaurants

Re: "British Resturants" I remember one in the jewellery quarter as late as 1974/75 used it quite often - remember the starched table cloths and waitresses in uniform.

    The Midlander

I never saw a semi in New St either, I believe 46235 City of Birmingham did attempt to enter from the South during the centenary celebrations (London to Birmingham railway) but got stuck and damaged its chimney, they could enter from the North though. In the early 60's the tunnels to Proof House...

    Railways in films

On the TV last week London to Brighton in 4 Minuit's was featured again -I don't think the one shown in the 50's featured the 'Brighton Belle' and had a lot more steam in camera. There must have been more than one film made.

    The Midlander

In the 50's I spotted it many times at Stechford station, the return working about tea time, Jube 45688 was a common sight, crate as we called it, on this working. Regards, Pistonvalve

Article in the Railway Magazine May 2010, page 83 - Chiltern to reopen the terminal platforms ready for their new Marylebone service starting from May 2011 using loco hauled Mk3 coaches. Good news. The area around Moor St will become busy with the projected High Speed rail link terminus at...

Departures from Euston on Sunday's 195o's

Hi dav, I used to live in Highfield Road (1950's) right by where the line went under the road and did my Sunday spotting by the driveway at the back of the houses in Glen Park Road. I can still visit the spot via google earth, happy days indeed.

Departures from Euston on Sunday's 195o's

Thanks Neville, that's very interesting- I monitored most of the Sunday diversions between 1952 and 1958 and the down expresses after the 'Royal Scot' were always the same destination and roughly the same time at Ward End Park:- Manchester 12.45, Liverpool 1pm. The question is what happened to...

Departures from Euston on Sunday's 195o's

Has any body out there got a copy of Bradshaw's. I would like to know the the title of the two expresses that left Euston after the Royal Scot within 15 Minuit's of each other - One to Manchester the other to Liverpool. We used to see them on Sundays on the Stetchford - Aston line between...

New HS2 Station in Curzon Street

Its a pity the proposed High speed line does not connect with HS1 at or near St Pancras so us 'living north of Watford' could have direct access to the Tunnel.

    Pines Express 1950's

Hi Peter and Dave, Interesting - I have seen The Pines at Walsall and Aston, then do I assume It came off the WCML at Stafford and routed through Wolverhampton (high level), Walsall, Bescote, Hamstead, Gt Barr, Perry Barr, Aston. It also could have come off at Rugeley and entered Walsall via...
