Memories of a Birmingham Musician (Drummer)!

Thanks for the explanation Eddie, I learn something everyday. No I didn't know that Robbies drummer came from B'ham, something else I've learnt. Cheers.

Memories of a Birmingham Musician (Drummer)!

I have noticed that these days most performers seem to wear an ear piece in one or both ears. Whats the purpose of them and what exactly do they hear through them, if anything. I watched Robbie Williams the other night and he was wearing ear pieces with his initials on them. Obviously then, they...

    Faded Lettering

Thanks for your reply Janice. I looked at youtube by inputing gravestone restoration and the very first video shows the type of problem I have. I haven't yet viewed all the video but I will when I get the chance. As for expense, I am not looking to spend a lot to be honest, as mom would have...

    Faded Lettering

I see that the lettering on my parents 25 year old headstone has almost 50% faded or disappeared. I imagine to get it restored professionally would be expensive, so is there a DIY way of trying to get the lettering looking half decent.

    Davenports

I have seen many pictures of the frontage of Davenports, but this is the first time I have seen an aerial view. A 1935 picture.

    Shakespeare pub Heath Street

Phils picture is the same as one that was posted on Facebooks Winson Green site in Feb 2015 and it was called The Shakespeare. I have copied and pasted the posters dialogue. "The Shakespeare pub... Not sure of the year of this picture .. But I lived on the other side of it, Heath St early 70s...

    Tv.........homes Under The Hammer

I totally agree with Eddies post. This renting business should be looked at, I know someone who owns 5 homes including his own, and he is a delivery driver. Come on, hows that work? I own my house, but I will never make any money from it, I have already willed it to my son. He is of the...

    Unsafe Headstones

Some years ago there was a purge on what was perceived to be headstones that were unsafe. They had some people go round and either supported them or laid them flat, and didn't they charge or try to charge, the owners of the graves? I haven't heard anything about this for a while, so does this...

Memories of a Birmingham Musician (Drummer)!

"In 1968 in a hotel in Germany, Gene Vincent tried to shoot Gary Glitter, whom he suspected of getting too close to his girlfriend. Vincent fired several shots and missed and a frightened Glitter left the country the next day. Vincent did manage to kick Glitter's backside as he ran away." The...

    Cheston Street Aston

At the end of 1961 I left school and started work at Cressall Manufacturing in Cheston Rd. I was there all through 1962 and halfway through 1963 when I left to go and work at Bulpitts. I remember at the back of the premises there was a canal where we just had enough room to play football in our...

    Park Road Hockley

Thanks Mike, I am pretty sure it is 114. In the first pic I posted in post #102 look at the lampost, then in my 2nd pic in post #106, if you look through the car windscreen on the right hand side just to the left of the wiper, I am sure you can see the lampost, only about 10 years earlier. I...

Lyn On this map, where I have marked it red, that is Whitmore St, and where I have marked it blue was the yard I lived in. This side of the road was all even numbers.

    Park Road Hockley

Lyn, this picture I have posted before. That is me leaning on the car and that's my mother standing at the bottom of the entry with 114 to her right. That was the first car I can remember having a ride in. It belonged to the elderly couple who lived at the top of the yard and they used to baby...

    Park Road Hockley

Lyn, if it is 114, then I used to live in the yard behind it. Right opposite was Whitmore St.

    Park Road Hockley

Looking down Park Rd towards the Flat, sometime in the 60's. I think the house on the extreme right is No 114.

    Council Housing

I have bought my house from the council, so obviously I don't disagree with the right to buy. However, what I do not agree with is the property being sold afterwards to landlords who then rent them out, otherwise councils should have kept them in the first place. It should be stipulated that...
