Centenary of the Great War - August 4 2014

I would like to generate some ideas as to how the Great War should be commemorated in the city and environs on that date and afterwards. 2014 will arrive all too quickly. I have plenty of ideas of my own but would like to hear what other people think before I take my next step in an official...

It was a draw and the cup was shared. I did the same thing later when my school, Alderlea of Shard End...

Aston Roll of Honour 1914 -1918

I thought I had posted this yesterday but it appears lost in the ether! It would be interesting to know the basis of the information in the Roll. I suspect CWGC but were other sources used? I suspect the list is an under-statement of Aston deaths by some margin. For example I have 221 Royal...

You are probably going to be unlucky here. 90% of Great War hospital records were shredded by the National Archives. They still have the rest i.e. 10% of hospitals - try their web site for a list. If any survive they might include an admissions register.

    Birmingham conscientious objectors 1916-1918

Local tribunals are usually well covered in local newspapers but the problem here is that Sparkhill is a bit of a 'no man's land' at this time.
