    Broad Street

Heres a few pics. Tow rope was a good laugh late at night in the 70s, after Barbs had shut or whatever, despite its reputation I never saw any overt evidence. Also in Broad St, I remember Modern Exchanges, second hand guitar shop - which burned down in about 1978, and re-surfaced as Musical...

Traditional Songs we sang at school

Yeah ! Ths sad story of Mad Carew and the Colonels daughter. Great stuff. Not PC now though, even Albert and the lion would probably be frowned upon. I remember showing my daughter the old 'every good boy deserves favour' way of remembering music staves, but her teacher was horrified ! they...

Traditional Songs we sang at school

Wouldnt be politically correct to sing what we used to at school, Jerusalem, Onward Christian Soldiers etc. My daughters in her teens and has never sung hymns in assembly even. No one mentions it when St Georges day comes around. And we live out in the sticks where theres no one to be offended...

    Plague

Is it really true that the corpses would still be contaminated, and could still spread Plague after all this time ? I would have doubted it, but I remember watching a program on TV a few years ago, where the bodies in a London Cemetery were being re-located. They were using a specialist...

    Indicator Arms before the "winkies"

Had to do hand signals on my test, mustve been one of the last to do it I should think, it was January 1970 by the way. If you did it now, especially the left turn one, people would wonder whats wrong wth you, and certainly wouldnt understand what it meant. I actually turned right with my arm...

    Yardley cemetery

From what I remember there are numbers descreetly engraved at the bottom on the backs of at least most of the headstones. but a lot of older stones were removed and the areas grassed over in the early 90s.

    St Andrews Church Bordesley Green

Yes, we always put Small Heath Birmingham 9 as well, but I think as far as the GPO were concerned, Small Heath was Birmingham 10 - and Birmingham 9 was Bordesley. See; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B_postcode_area#Coverage But Geographically...

    St Andrews Church Bordesley Green

I was christened there, and I lived in Small Heath, could be wrong but I believe that Tilton Rd, and anywhere down hill from it was actually Bordesley. the actual boundary being Greenway St, even number side was Bordesley, odd No.s Small Heath, although we always called all of it Small Heath...
