Hi Bernard and a Happy New Year to you.
You are doing a grand job with these paintings. I must ask my brother if he has still got his steam photos. He had hundreds at one time.
HooRay (forgive the pun), the man is back and my tongue is hanging out so far in anticipation of more of these pictures from Ray that its longer than my cocker spaniel's. Welcome back Ray and a special Happy New Year from me to you.
You do know by now that I am always looking for photos of...
Richard,
This photo is to CONVINCE YOU that The Travellers' Rest WAS the pub opposite the Astoria (in this photo it was still The Theatre Royal).
Lyn,
The photo also shows The Civic Restaurant opposite NEXT TO (for Richard) The Travellers' Rest.
The answer to 2 questions in the same photo! The...
Hi Rowan,
After Alf's headline post "Breaking News about G.G. Jean", I thought this was another one and that Dawn had broken her arm too!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously, nice photos from a nice part of the world.
Richard,
It was The Travellers' Rest. Jennifer Bazeley's dad was the landlord when I was at St. Mary's C of E in Aston in 1954-5. I had a crush on her at that time. I was 10 going on 11 then and had a lot to learn (from school as well!).
Hi Richard,
Do you or your family have any pictures of Bracebridge Street? I lived almost opposite The Vine until 1965. The pawn shop was on the opposite side to The Vine but further down the street near the junction with Miller Street.
Sorry Miggy3, I did not know you dad. When did he work there?
Names I recall are Ken Rainey, Milford Blakelock, Tommy and Sandra Jennings, Johnny Bell, Brian and Lynette Butler, Tommy Gilkes, Terry Flower, "Pony" Pritchard.
I worked at Morris Comicals from 1967 to 1971 in the Jig & Tool Design Office as a draughtsman. This was at a time when BMC (later BL) had plans to close it when the last Morris Minor van was produced. In fact production of the last Morris Minor Travellers were built there before it closed. In...
My father was a tube drawer for more than 20 years at C M Powell Bros in Aston Road (brass and copper). My brother followed in his footsteps for a while until he knew better!
Hi Paul,
When you were at Cromwell St did you know Colin Preece (a mate of mine and fellow Wolves supporter). Maybe you can identify people in the attached picture?

Hi Ray,
Nice photos of The Norton. Have you got any more of Bracebridge Street by any chance. Your previous posts on the Aston Pictures thread were great - so many of them, and I have an idea of a project in which to use them (with your permission of course!). I am just really short of pictures...
Straying off the subject..........
Lyn, I'm agog and aghast and despite what you say, I'm definitely holding my breath! (especially as its Wolves 0-0 Villa at HT). Oops! Strayed again!
You see........... Everything starts at Bracebridge Street! High Street, Newtown Row, Dartmouth Street but where are the photos guys? One day maybe!! Lyn got her Vine Inn, maybe I'll get my Bracebridge Street one day (sigh).
Hi John,
I would really be over the moon if you had some photos of Bracebridge Street in particular as this is where I was born and bred. I have a little project in mind to have photos from Aston Street to Salford Bridge relating to a map of Aston with off-shoot sections at the main...
