    Tamworth field trainspotting

Hi Colin, Have no idea of the location but I think the photos are the wrong way around. The trains ran on the "Left" as per the traffic in the UK but both are running on the opposite track! Unless of course these 2 trains were involved in a couple of train crashes moments after you took the...

    Birmingham Groups

Hey Mossy, How come you know so much about The Uglys? Barbara worked with Roger Hill for a while and Dave Pegg ended up with Fairport Convention (and still is). Fairport are our favourite Brum group although only Dave Pegg and Dave Swarbrick were Brummies (not even sure about Swarb?).

Hi Rod, I used to live in that section of Bracebridge Street and many a time my mom went into Gertrude Fall's Pawn Shop, which was just down the street and on the opposite side of the opening was Ray Sketchley's Greengrocer's shop, near to the junction with Miller Street. I have been looking for...

Hello Don, You're bringing back some memories now with Goodman's Chemist, Baines' Bread and Cakes and the Pet Shop next to Aston Brook. I used to climb over a wooden fence next to the pet shop and climb down a metal ladder to water level, then walk as far as I could without getting my feet wet...

Hi Yashima, This is the only picture I know of, of St Mary's C of E Aston, in a photo of Avenue Road posted by Ray Griffiths under a Lozell Pictures thread. 'Course you might know I went all through the Aston Pictures thread (21 pages) before I tried the Lozells thread.

Hi Don, Well, well, another pupil pops up! Great! How is Maureen? She was always a quiet girl that I can remember. Did she marry and have kids? Is she still in touch with any of her old school friends? Please tell her I have contact with Michael Taber, Raymond Hawkins and John Weare's sister...

The Plaza's -Handsworth and Old Hill, The Ritz Ballroom- Kings Heath

Hi Keith (Ethan), Your Thread starter is a really great read and shows that you have a lot of knowledge of the Brum Beat in the 60's, but how about a bit of history about yourself from then to now. I'm sure that will be a good read too!

    Alex's Pie Stands

I remember one night queueing with my mates, Graham and Terry, for a steak and kidney pie at Alex's in Hill Street. Cliff Richard was appearing at the B'ham Hip and there were loads of girls hoping to catch a glimpse of him going into The Albany Hotel across the road. We were walking across...

    Blues win

Thought I''d better show that we are not all hiding after defeat! Followed the game on BBC and Sky simultaneously (no visuals). Sick as a parrot! As any Wolves supporter of long standing will know (and I've been standing the Wolves for 52 years), if Wolves are 3-0 up with 10 minutes to go, you...

    Definition of “Brummie”, “Astonian” etc

Hi Ray, Maybe these days, we can refer to Victor J. Price's' definition as being an "Old Astonian" and everyone else born after 09.11.1911 can be referred to just as an old "Astonian"? As one of 65 years of age I feel that I am an old Astonian but there are many on this Forum who are older who...
