Was it a cycle shop? This is maddening! That could have been the shop called Cowdrills! I have a vague memory of there being a bike shop on the corner of Barker St and Villa Rd.

Morning Mabz. I don't think so.............but could be! It's a name I remember from way back and thought it was either a shop on the Lozells Road or Villa Road.

Yes there was a pet shop there. Spent many a happy 5 minutes with my nose pressed up against the glass looking at all the animals. My mom used to shop up Villa Road every Saturday. Used to say we were going up "the village". Can't remember what it was called though. Also the shop shown on...

Almost forgot, on the picture of Villa Road, on the left where you can see a clock sticking out. I'm sure that was Price and Olivers. Bought my first fountain pen from a shop just along there. Maybe it was from Price and Olivers - though I may be getting confused because something tells me...

Ray - I must echo what other members of the forum are saying - your pictures are wonderful. The picture of Villa Cross really brings back loads of memories. Though I am sure the shop shown on the corner of Barkers Street and Lozells Road wasn't called that in my day. I may be getting...

    Lozells

Ray - thank you so much for posting these pictures of Lozells Road. It is the Lozells that I remember as a child. The first picture shows Vera's hairdressers where I sometimes was taken to have my hair done, also I think you can just see Foster Bros. further up on the corner. The 2nd picture...

Having looked at this particular photo again (out of interest because although I had walked Wills Street thousands of times, I never knew St. Mary's was there) I can see Charleville Road in this distance, which was where my husband was born. He attended St. Francis school, whilst I was at...

Ray, the photos of Wills Street and the one of Wills Street at the corner of Hunters Road brought back lots of memories. Thanks for posting them. I used to walk from Burbury Street, along Wills Street, down Hunters Road everyday on my way to work in Naden Road. Have you go anymore? Thanks again.

    Burbury Street School

I had two brothers Mabz and both went to Harry Lucas. My elder brother David would have been there a year or two earlier than Phillip (whose reports are the one's I found).

    Burbury Street School

I have just come across my brother's school reports. He attended Harry Lucas from 1964 - 1968. The Headteacher appears to be a Mr. A. Walker. The form teachers named are K. Sadler, C M Chivers, Derek Nicholls and M J Arnold. Sorry I haven't found any pictures yet.

    Lozells Road Co-op

You are so right Lyn. Just like the summers always seemed to go on forever and the sun was always shining!! lol. Anyway hope Colin can put us right - I'm off out now so will catch up with this thread later. Have a good day.

    Lozells Road Co-op

Thanks Lyn. Also on the other side of the road looks another building which could be a church? I think this picture is fascinating. I just wish you could move a bit further down the road with it - sort of a virtual tour - lol. Of course in the future when hopefully our children's children...

    Lozells Road Co-op

Lyn - lovely photo. But again I am finding it hard to get my bearings with it. I can see St. Pauls in the distance. Is the Royal Oak shown on the photo? Obviously lots of the buildings shown were gone by the time I remember. The road seems much longer than I recall. Probably because of the...

    Lozells Road Co-op

Lovely photos silhouette53 - though they were long gone before my Lozells memories begin. I don't know if everyone feels the same about where they were brought up but I think Lozells holds a special appeal. My family lived in the area for over 100 years and I wish that the Lozells of my youth...

    good thumper my dear friend

One of my best friends recently lost her dog. She was so very upset - he was part of her family. I did my best to help her through it, making coffee, listening and calling to check she was ok. I am sorry that you have no family or close friends as I know what a comfort they can be, however...

    cherry orchard playing fields..

I am sure that when I was attending Anglesey Street School we used what we called Wood Lane playing fields. This would have been in the 1970's. I seem to remember a wooden pavillion type building but cannot be 100% sure. I am sure though that this is what you are referring to a Cherry...

    Birmingham Settlement

I am sure I remember my nan going to the Birmingham Settlement. I wonder if this would be the same place. I have no idea where it was. She lived in Burbury Street, Lozells. But when she went there it would have been in the late 1970's or early '80's and she would have been 70 or 80 years of...
