    Help Please - Army Photograph

Lloyd - thank you so much for this information. It seems you are helping me out a lot this evening! Do you think there may be some truth in my Uncles story or do the dates just not add up?

    Soho Foundry

Funnily enough I have passed this factory four times in the last few days. I had seen photographs of this wonderful building on a thread somewhere and had assumed that being called Soho House it was situated somewhere by the Soho Road. So when I drove past it and recognised it I had a little...

    Help Please - Army Photograph

Alf thanks for your post. I have an inkling that these were either my dad's parents or his grandparents. I know his father was a George Daniel Dauncey born in Birmingham in 1891. I think he may have been in Africa before WW1 and I seem to remember my Uncle telling me that he was coming home...

Thank you Lloyd - the photograph looks great! You have done a great job. Was unsure where to post this thread but as usual everyone seems ready to help but I do apologise if this is under the wrong heading.

    Scooter - Help Please

Hi Lloyd Thanks for the information and lovely photos. I wonder what colour my dad's scooter was? I will have to ask around family members to see if they remember. Jules

Sorry - having a blond moment!! I thought it could have been her "Sunday Best" but you are right - isn't it spectacular though! She reminds me of royalty.

Help Wanted Please - Navy Photograph

Thanks for link Alf. However this battleship was launched in 1936 and I think this photograph is much older than that. It was in a collection of very old photographs of my dads. It certainly looks a lot older than photographs of my dad taken around that time whilst he was serving in WW2 Were...

    Scooter - Help Please

Can anyone help please. I have come across this photograph of my sister sitting on what I presume was my dad's scooter. Does anyone know the make, model etc and what year it was made. Thank you.

Help Wanted Please - Navy Photograph

If anyone could help please with any information regarding the attached photograph, i.e. roughly what year this picture would have been taken, any information regarding HMS Hotspur etc. Many thanks. I know this young man (who looks far too young to be serving in the navy!) is one of my ancestors...

    Help Please - Army Photograph

Can anyone help at all please. I have found the attached photograph in my parents things. I have a feeling that it is a photograph of my grandparents or most probably my great grandparents. Can anyone hazard a guess to the age of the picture? What uniform is the gentleman wearing? I think that...

    Burbury Street

Hi all, Here are a couple of photographs that I have found of Burbury Street; They are roughly taken from the same place. The building on the corner with the bricked up windows has now become a mosque.

    Burbury Street

I visited Burbury Street yesterday for the first time in about 10 years. I had a look at the property at the top of Burbury Street which would have been your ggrandfather's bakery. It is been converted and is now a large double fronted house. I have some photos of Burbury Street (though...

    Burbury Street

Re: Burbury Street Lozells Hi Keith Thanks for the information on the photographs. It is fascinating to see the images, I will show them to my older siblings when I get the chance as I am sure they may remember our street before we lost the bottom half of it! Its nice to see the one that...

    Burbury Street

Re: Burbury Street Lozells I am certain that these are the three shops that were at the corner of Wills Street and Burbury Street. I lived just a short way up the road.

    To My Great Grandfather

I sat and read your post and had tears in my eyes. I am relatively young having been born in 1965 but my father served in WW2 and my grandfather in WW1. I was brought up with stories of the war and vividly remember my dad nearly crying on 11th November remembering his fallen colleagues. I always...

    Burbury Street

Re: Burbury Street Lozells Hi Wales This last photo is the only one I recognise. This is the one of Burbury Street and the corner of Wills Street. If we could just pan up the road a bit my house would be in the picture. Funnily enough I was there yesterday. WOW have things changed...

    Burbury Street

Hi Bob I was interested to see that whilst marrying into the Duffy family, you are also related to the Wheeldons. I remember Mrs Wheeldon, she was a friend of my moms. I always had to call her Aunty Joyce. My sister and two brothers were much older than me and I believe they knew Joyce's...

    The Cane.

When I was at primary school, if you were naughty you had the slipper. I must have been a goody two shoes because I was never in trouble! To scared of the consequences and having to explain to my parents lay at the back of it I think. But did I fear my parents - no. I loved them and knew...

    Surnames as places

Hi, my maiden name was Dauncey. Having traced my family tree back a few generations the name has been spelt in many ways. There is a village Dauntsey in Wiltshire - don't know if there is any connection. All my ancestors seemed to come from Gloucestershire.
