    Missing from 1901 census ?

I don't think it is unusual for families to 'disappear' as far as census is concerned. And I really have no idea why but this seems to happen with mine more in the 1901 census than anywhere else. All you can do is input each individual and see if you can find the rest of the family that way or...

    Death Certificates

Not a problem Shortie. I'll do it in the next couple of days as I'm on a deadline for clearing out the deceased parents' house asap. Hubby a Woody but I don't think they stretched as far as Cradley. At the moment all I have for his lot are a few branches and not much by way of twigs and leaves...

    Death Certificates

Shortie Why don't you send me the details and I'll see if I can find if someone on GenesReunited is interested in that person. Jill

    Simpkin, frederick and zena

Chris that happens to me all the time. I've looked and looked for someone and can't find them. Then I look another day and they pop straight up. What's the phrase? Just because it's an inanimate object, doesn't mean it can't play tricks. Glad you found who you were looking for. Jill

    Simpkin, frederick and zena

Have you tried looking in FreeBMD.org.uk There is a Zena Simpkin who died in 1945 in Birmingham and there are a number of Frederick deaths noted including one in Leicester. You could narrow it down if you know when they were born as their age at death are shown against their names. Jill

    Austin

My mother told me that she was one of seven. Only three girls survived to adult age though and she was the youngest. The others had died from Kidney problems with what was then referred to as Bright's Disease. I think she said she was about twelve when she was diagnosed. It seems she was not...

    19th century Aston

Don't know if you have checked out FamilySearch.org but if you put just the surname and Birmingham into the relevant fields you get a lot of Darkes come up. Not sure now about the location after readin the number alterations. Jill

    19th century Aston

Googling got me this. Right building name but wrong building number. Maybe there is more than one office for them. Is it Bordesley House that interests you or the address at 335 Coventry Road? Family Housing Association (Birmingham) Ltd Bordesley House 44/46 Coventry Road Birmingham B10...

    19th century Aston

I agree that it should be Ashted Row. I've never come across Ashfred on anything from my Aston lot but it would be so easy to transcribe from Ashted. Jill

Can you make out name of informant

Please can I give a hint here. Sometimes when you can't quite make out a signature, don't look straight at it. Turn your head and look out of the corner of your eye. I don't know why it works but I've found that it does. Another idea is to sit back further from the screen rather than get closer...

    Price, WW1 photo - Help?!

https://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index.php?showforum=1 Take a look at this forum. It is a wealth of info. I have found a whole branch of family after I spotted a posting from the great grandson of a mutual ancestor

    Walker's Street Guide of Birmingham

Sorry Mike but I didn't. I was clearing out my parents house. I had never seen it before. I never knew that they had it. Isn't it crazy to think it cost the equvalent of one and a half new pence. I looked up Ash Grove near St. Andrew's where I was born and it isn't in there. I don't know if...

    Walker's Street Guide of Birmingham

Hope it's okay to post on this set of threads. Not Walkers as I put but Wakelin's. Today I came across a copy of this little book from 1942. It was published by FH Wakelin Ltd. 354 Wheeler Street, Birmingham 19 and cost 3d. It gives the location of the road/street in relation to what road it...

    Stratford Road Shirley

I regularly used to buy from Suffields. It was a real loss when they closed. It is only five minutes from me. I can't think exactly what is there now and if I'm right the building isn't quite the front facade it was. I would be more than happy to go and take some digital photographs for you...

    Famous catch phrases.

Oh I love Dad's Army. Everytime I travel down to Dorset and see signs for Warminster, I think Warminster on Sea and Dad's Army and hear Pte Jones 'They don't like it up 'em Mr Mainwaring' My grandfather was a very dour man, born on the island of Whalsay, Shetland. He looked so like John...

    Happy Valley Pleasure Grounds

I started going out with my now husband in 1984. He lived with his parents near the Warstock Public house (now demolished). There was the Happy Valley Festival or some similar name even in the mid eighties. I might be mistaken but I think there was even an event at the Community Centre...
