Hi
What would be the best way of recording a family tree? If you use Ancestry and FMP to record the tree would you lose your tree if you no longer had subscription to the site.
Best wishes
Alison
Hi Maurice
Thank you so much :)
Your reply has been really informative and very helpful. I will certainly check out the LDS centres when they reopen. I've never heard of the Forbears site before and that will prove really useful too. Thank you so much for taking the time to write this...
Really appreciate that thanks :) so many sites nowadays and really can't afford to subscribe to everything. Another site of interest is Fold 3 but don't know if they have more records than Ancestry and FMP.
Hi
Is anyone a member of "The Genealogist"? Does The Genealogist have more records than Ancestry and FMP and how does it differ. My family are predominantly Midlands based so not sure which site might be best for membership.
Best wishes

Yes I have and all seems straight forward. George married Betsy's sister May Cartledge in 1960 although George and May were listed as living together in 1939 register.
That's right. The intriguing part is they had another child Doris Mary Callow in Jan 1930. Seems strange to have 2 children named Doris one year apart. Perhaps Doris Joan died but I can't find a death for her.
I wanted to order the following birth certificate:
CALLOW, DORIS JOAN
GRO Reference: 1929 M Quarter in BIRMINGHAM NORTH Volume 06D Page 813 Occasional Copy: A
I don’t understand why it says ‘Occasional Copy: A’ or why the mother’s maiden name is missing please. Also I can't seem...
James Callow is my GGG Grandad. His Parents are William and Eliza. I have most of the children but when I check their MMN the majority of the children have the MMN of Peers, Pearce. However Joseph has his MMN as Copper.
Perhaps Joseph Callow's MMN was never registered. Or his birth wasn't...
Have just found this for another son Harry which would match but William listed as a Labourer. Would anyone know what 'Private' means in this instance.
Hi Janice
I think it is because I have William listed as a Gardener in the 1861 Census. Another of his sons is James Callow who married Catherine Hitchcock and on his Wedding Certificate, William is listed as a Gardener. The other complicating thing is that William and Eliza have children...
Thanks for that. But he isn't the one either as my William was born in 1830 and married to Eliza.
Also I'm glad that a possible marriage between William Callow and Eliza Gwyther has been checked and ruled out by Janice. I'd ruled it out too but it was really great to have a second opinion...
There is a marriage between William Callow and Martha Peters in 1853. But my Joseph Callow's parents were William (b.1830) and Eliza ?(Peers)? (b.1832) though I haven't been able to find there marriage.
Hi
I have a Callow family living at 4 First Row, Talbot Street on the 1861 Census.
The thing is if I look for the mothers maiden name for these children it seems to be a variation on the spelling of Peers, Peerss, Pearce. However for Joseph Callow born in 1857, his mother's maiden name seems...
Thank you both so much. You seem to have magic fingers. I try loads of searches and come up with nothing!!!
I think he was a private in the 1st battalion. I have found information regarding his discharge from the army. I still cannot find him in the 1911 census though....
