Evacuation Of Children World War 2

Going through some of Mom’s old photos, I came across a couple of snaps that I believe may show the arrival of wartime evacuees. The location is Bredon, Worcestershire, and the viewpoint is outside the Fox and Hounds in Church St. The buses are parked opposite Bredon Hancock’s School. My Mom...

    Temperance

I can’t remember having made an oath, and as a child, surely I wasn’t expected to make one, was I? In any event, I have broken it since regularly. I now wish that I had kept that certificate, but I think that it was probably discarded long ago. N

    Temperance

Does anyone on the forum have any recollection of temperance lessons in school? I remember having a certificate, although nothing of the lessons leading to the award. This would have been in around 1960, when I was nine, and had just moved to St Silas’ School in Lozells. All quite meaningless to...

    Decimalisation In 1971

Slightly off topic, but I wonder how many have noticed that copper and silver coinage up to the value of 10p are no longer made of bronze or cupro-nickel. Test your change with a magnet and you'll find that the more recently minted coins contain iron! I was still an engineering apprentice...

    Harry lucas school

Just out of curiosity I took a virtual trip down Farm St a few days ago (Street View) to see if I could pinpoint the School's location. The only point of reference seems to be the Friends Meeting House (Quakers) which was more or less opposite Harry Lucas School. All of the old terraced housing...

Yes, in 1964 I think. Can't remember too much about it now. I have clearer recollections of Bell Heath Camp School which came later.

Hope I've done this right. Speech day circa 1965 at a guess. Mr Walker standing with I believe, Lady Waring. Not sure about the others but I think the gentleman seated on the right could be the Birmingham Chief Education Officer of the time.

    Harry lucas school

Hi, I attended Harry Lucas school 1962-1967. The four school houses were Garner, Masterton (or Masterson), Waring and Corfield. It all sounded rather grand for such a school but I think that the head, Mr Walker (inevitably Johnny) was quite ambitious for his school. Unfortunately the school...
