CINEMA CORNER OF BORDESLEY GREEN AND CROWN ROAD

I can remember the Billiard Hall. In the last year of Skool we were allowed to leave the premises during lunchtime but forbidden to visit the Billiard Hall. Oft times it was up to Wimbushes for 'half a French stick', comsune the interior and then into the 'Chippie' where said 'stick' got...

    Done it

Richard. Thanks. It seems to be a modern day version of "Sons of Rest" although, I never knew what that actually was. And 'Men in Sheds' is not just for men. "Wimmin" :) are not excluded. Although, dependant upon any particular branch, they may be confined to different days. We need to 'give...

Congratulations. A group that has recently come to my notice is "Men in Sheds". I don't know much about it but my local group meets twice a week for two four hour sessions. Starting point here:- https://menssheds.org.uk/about/#who-we-are

    horse drawn engine

Those images of Fire appliances are of interest to me because one of 'mine' was a volunteer Fireman at Aston. In 1879, after attending a fire in Lichfield Road, he was aboard the appliance, returning to the Station, when he fell from the vehicle fracturing his skull and died leaving a Widow and...

    Francis Walls m Sarah Markland

I think I was able to find it. Gov.uk Find a will > Wills & Probate 1858 - 1996 > Enter Walls and 1918 This brings up the Probate index page(s). Go to Page 2. In the input fields enter Date of Probate > Date of Death > Sarah > From the dropdown list > Birmingham Get your CC out.

    Death certificate.

In that case, I'd be searching the GRO Index for a Drinkwater Birth with a MMN of Williams.

    Death certificate.

For those who haven't yet discovered the 'Snip' feature in Windows 10, which actually works when posting on this forum (although not on many others), Press the buttons Windows + Shift + S and the screen becomes shaded with an option of 'shapes' appearing at the top. You then select a 'shape'...

    Amazon computers and printers

A couple of years ago, when visiting the local Cartridge World, I asked about the most economical brand of printer and was told Brother (and another which I can't recall) and that they can supply printers. I know it is now lockdown but, there is invariably a note on the door with a mobile phone...

    Birmingham City Police 1839 - 1974

Wasn't the White Rabbit 'incident' not at Quinton? I seem to remember that there was an 'urgency' to replace an internal door at Quinton after a defendant, in Crown Court, alleged that he had only confessed because he had been made to stand in front of a door and had knives thrown at him. As if!;)

    Belmont Village, Ashtead

Hi. I have geneology records that cite that address/area, certainly in 1821, and again in that Century. Is there a map of that era which shows the location? Thanks.

    THE COST OF PROGRESS

I don't see that as a problem. With 'ancient' systems there was opportunity to view everything. Now, with modern systems, and a 'tiered' access approach, it is easier to limit the Call Taker's access to what they NEED to know. And check if they have attempted to access 'data' that they 'don't...

    Seaweed imported to Warwickshire

I've just viewed part of an episode of Great Railway Journeys (or whatever)? In it there was a visit to York and the Chocolate Industry and I'm sure I heard mention of seaweed being used to make Cocoa. Cadbury's?
