Does anyone remember Emily's Stores which was the post office in Washwood Heath Road between Aston Church Road and St Marks Church. I worked there in the late 50's delivering laundry in a three wheel basket truck. The shop acted as agents for the laundry and people left their laundry there to be...
There was a transport club in Miller Street in the 60/70/80's. It was in the building across the road from Miller Street bus garage. The lost property office was next door to it as also the main radio control centre was. The club (as far as I know) closed down. I don't think the club had any...
The bus drivers who worked on that route used to call it "The Desert" because there was no terminus and they had to keep driving round the route without stopping for refreshments.
It is one of the worst routes to drive on because there are so many hold ups at major road junctions such as...
I knew John Turner when I worked at Washwood Heath Garage. If I remember right he was very keen on fishing and I believe he opened a fishing shop in Shard End.
I worked there as a bus conductor and driver 1963-1975 and later as a bus inspector in the 90's.

Thanks for the information. :)
I don't know if there was a connection with Freddy Lloyd but I think she had a sister or neice named Charlotte Lloyd.
I was at Leigh Road School from 1950 until 1958 and my dad Les Linnecor was there before the war in the late 30's. I still have one of...

Many thanks for all the information Barrie. I'm still trying to sift through it to find out where the mix up happened. I think you may be right about Phoebe though as her name is cropping up more and more. I wonder if George got married twice! And why would he and Phoebe go to West Bromwich to...
The building was probably a Malthouse where they made Malt or it may have been a windmill as it was on top of a hill hence the name Highfield (Road). I remember in the late 40's/early 50's the area immediately behind the building had lock up garages on it. My Grandparents lived at No 17...
Many thanks for the information.
Seems to be a bit of confusion with the name spelling (Caffrey/Caffery) and some of the ages but thats wasn't unusual in those days.
Thanks again.
