    Harborne

Thanks David. Have only been back home to Harborne a couple of times since leaving in 1961. I have no-one living there now and when I Googled the reservoir area I was astounded that there was no evidence that the reservoir had ever existed.

    Harborne

When i was a kid living in High Street right opposite the Royalty I used on odd occasions to go to the reservoir in Reservoir Road. I used to stand and watch the water pouring down into a square hole that had no railings round. Anyone could have fallen (or jumped in) never to be seen again. I...

Thanks Richie, I knew it was wrong when I typed it but couldn't think of anyone else at any price (sorry!!!) I also saw Flash Gordon but at the Royalty, Harborne but probably in 1952. It was such exciting stuff. I can hear even now the sound of the Rocketship starting. Remember the Clay men...

    Birmingham Cinemas

My Grandmother worked at the West End Cinema when it was the Curzon Hall and Waller Jeffs ran his animated Pictureshows. Very old fashioned cinema but opened Todd AO. Went to see South Pacific. Didn't think much of the film but the picture on the screen was quite something. The support was a...

The Tatler is still operating in Station Street. I think it's a two screen luxury cinema. When I went once it was rather small so I'd love to know what it looks like now! Perhaps one day. Does anyone remember the film 'House on Haunted Hill' presented in EMERGO with Dennis Price. I so much...

I used to go to The Picture House Harborne. It was a real old fashioned place with little emergency gas lamps on both walls. There was no balcony and the front doors opened straight onto a small vestibule with a small ticket office and double entrance either side. It had no proscenium arch as...

    ABC Minors !!

Hi everyone. I was born in Harborne and used to attend the Saturday morning pictures at The Picture House, Serpentine Road. We knew it as the Old Harborne and I loved the sing song that always commenced the show. 'Hands, knees, and bumps-a-daisy' and 'Underneath the spreading Chestnut tree' we...

    Harborne Picture House (Serpentine Road)

Phil, I had seen one of the pictures elsewhere on the net but am hoping that someone will unearth a picture of the cinema in it's heyday and even better, a internal photo. Thanks for your reply.

    Harborne Picture House (Serpentine Road)

Thanks Carolina, but your link is to the Royalty Cinema. The Picture House was further up the High Street in Serpentine Road and has been The Village Social Club for many years. Someone will have photo's and I'm just hoping they will see my request. Very kind of you to want to help. Dave

Do any members have any photo's of Harborne Picture House? Spent my childhood there but all I have is a poor picture of when it was up for auction. Do any others exist?

    Harborne

Just came across this forum and spent a happy hour reading through. I was born in Harborne in 1939 and left in 1961. It was a great place to live. I went to High Street Junior and Station Road Secondary Modern Schools. Does anyone remember Hughes sweet shop in Vivian Road selling 'Lingo Fizz'...
