    Smithfield Garage

Did Smithfield Garage have a Renault dealership somewhere in Digbeth in the early 70s? When I worked at The VW Smithfield I think I heard about the Renault place but never went there.

Memories, yes, scraping the footrests around corners. I used to try that at the bottom of Alwold Road into Weoley Avenue.

    telegram delivery bikes

I was at Selly Oak 1968-69. My 125cc Bantam was numbered T14346 on the Tank. I worked with a terrific bunch of lads: Dave Fitzpatrick from Barley Green. Kenny Dyde from West Heath, Dave Southwick from Northfield, Roger ? from Halesowen. I was Johnny Miller the 'long haired mod'. The name of the...

Thanks for the info. I'll go and have a look. I think the school opened in 1957.

    Motorcycle Shops

Were you the mechanic who had a modified Ford Anglia 105E? The engine was either hotted up or had a 1500 fitted. The front suspension had , I think, been modified. I was allowed to drive it around the block and even now after many cars, that Anglia was one of the best handling cars I've ever driven.

Kellys 1973 directory - Scrap Dealer

Just what I was looking for! In 1971 I worked at Coles on the Coventry Road and Mr Benny Coles mentioned 'Raggy Allen' quite often. I knew he was a scrap dealer and now I know where! Much appreciated.

    Harborne

Mr Dingley was the best wheel builder in the city. I think he lived on Moorpool. I Lived at 70 and 74 High Street (Millers and Byrds). Very sad when that row of houses were demolished in 1968.

Terrific picture. This was another legendary Harborne shop, Morgans. That shop must have been a gold mine.

    Motorcycle Shops

Yes I remember that. I think one of the lads was from Nuneaton. One of the mechanics fitted a new clutch in my Cortina 1200 Mk1. The foreman was Joe?

    Motorcycle Shops

I was in the spares department at Coles in 1971. I worked with the late Stan Dilke and Mr Benny Coles. Coles was Reliant and motorcycles although the motorcycles were phased out. The stores sold off all the motorcycle stuff and I remember dealers buying van loads of the bike spares, especially...

    Smithfield Garage

I remember Dave Rowley spraying air freshener into the back of a Type 2 van that was used by a fish merchant. Were you there when there was a fire in the paint stores?

Rainbow Suite (above Co-op & Bhs High St )

A legendary venue. I went there 1966-68. The music was all Tamla Motown/Atlantic etc. The roof area was sometimes a problem for the organisers because I can remember summer Saturday nights when lads used to go across it and try to get on the adjacent roofs of other buildings! Dangerous but we...

    P.J. Evans Essex Street

Anyone out there work at The Jaguar Rover Triumph spares department in the early 70s? I was there 1973-74 on the front counter and Jaguar telephone enquiries. I remember the legend Mike Collins, Johnny Bow, Chris Spilsbury, John Bromley, Melvyn Shufflebottom, Albert Stretton, Steve Kazee. It was...

    Smithfield Garage

Yes, Allen Corbett became a rep at Car Lighting which, I think, was in Moseley Road. I now remember Les Jeans and Gordon played water polo at a high level. When I was there I think Terry Blizzard was in the Service Reception. I was with Allan Corbett in the part of the stores that issued parts...

    Smithfield Garage

I was in the stores at Smithfield 1972-73. Smashing people to work with but Volkswagen spares always seemed to need chassis numbers for any part and I could not handle it. I remember Les Smith, Hedley Hindmarsh, Allan Corbett, Andy Stevens, Mr Clive, Tony Ticer, Dave Rowley, Tom Gillette, Mr...
