City Centre developments 2020 - overview

The Arena Central development co to yes to progress. The silver cladding has started going on the HMRC building. It will be odd not seeing the progress on it now as I shall be working from home.

    Centenary Square development 2020

This morning's view. The pool has been drained, I'm assuming it will stay that way until the current virus crisis passes. I won't be going into work for a while now as I am all set up to work from home. I wonder what will have changed by the time I go back?

    Bridge Street/holliday Street Old House

They do seem to do some maintenance from time to time. I'm just surprised that nothing has been done with them. With a bit of work they'd make an ideal little suite for the Premier Inn that they are pretty much in the grounds of anyway, or even City Centre apartments. I can only think that...

    Bridge Street/holliday Street Old House

I've been fascinated by these cottages since I started working next to the 5 years ago. I've learned a lot reading through this thread. The cottages are still there & in much the same state as when the thread started, though, the wall running along Holliday street has suffered some damage - I...

    Canals of Birmingham

I work on Bridge Street, adjacent to Gas Street Basin (the business park I work in is even called The Wharf). I am very curious about this cottage/pair of cottages that are on the corner of Bridge Street & Holliday Street. I have tried to find out about them, but can't find anything. There is...

    Colmore Row

I know this is an old post I'm replying to, but when this was being built I worked in the offices above Snowhill Station (the ones shown in post #8). One day a workman cut through the power & phone cables turning that end of Colmore Row into darkness. We all got sent home from work early as...

    Birmingham's Working Horses

There's many types of heavy horse with the feathered feed- some taller than others. Of the common ones, the Clydesdale is the tallest - can be more than 6' where they are measured from (the area where the neck joins the back), Shire horses are shorter (5'8" ish) but stockier, there's also Welsh...

    Birmingham's Working Horses

My one Granddad used to work with the horses when he was a lad. I don't know for whom, but I remember him telling me about it when I was a kid. It would have been milk round horses. He was born around 1914 (have yet to check out the actual date) and he grew up in the Saltley. Any of his...

Late 70s amateur Aerial Photos, city and south to Longbridge

Browsing confined to lunch break!!! You wouldn't recognise where the tv studios was now, it's all gone (as has the Register Office). It's a building site at the moment, although the new building for the HMRC is near completion. I believe there is another 3 buildings to go up, but they will be...

If there was a tiny bit more at the bottom of this photo I could see what it used to look like where I am sitting now at work :D (opposite the ATV studios)

I think that's Newtown. The Lucas factory being the triangular bit more or less centre. The row of 5 tower blocks would be on New John Street West. I lived for about 18 months in the white tower block that's on the left near the bottom of the photo.

I worked next to this a few years ago (just off to the left of this photo). The pitch was all overgrown then as the school was not in use. I believe it's now being used again.

    Curzon Street Railway Station

If it's a building that is due to go over where it is, it would be fun if they could put a glass floor over it so that you can see it as you walk over.
