Granddad certainly enlisted, so it would make sense. But I didn't think Gran's birthday was June, she did die around 20 years ago now, so maybe I'm getting the months mixed up! I have ordered a copy of their marriage certificate so I will have more details as to dob & parents names when that...

Thanks. He was born Aston way, but they moved to Shirley in 1940 when my Dad was still a baby. They remained at the same address. My Gran's name was Grace Mary (maiden name Grundy). I have found her records, including the marriage, but not much for Granddad.

Could be a relative. Unfortunately, I'm none to familiar withstand side of the family. Dad's only sister, Joyce, died in childhood so there are no aunts, uncles or cousins.

Aston would be the birth area, but at this stage I'm unsure of his mother's ma is an name. Will have to try & find out somehow. June 89? He was cremated in April, & I'd have thought his death would have been registered before that, unless it's for the quarter ending June. I'll look.

I have recently started is in Ancestry . Com. Having a great with it, but am getting increasing frustrated trying to pin down records for my Grandfather Frank Lees. I've found his & Gran's marriage details, as well as the birth records for my Dad & his sister (and her death record as she died...

I thought it was Greggs (or Braggs as it was called back then) but wasn't 100% certain. Shame about the library. Though it was small, I much preferred it to the Central Library in Town, which I playground dark, dingy & soulless. That station is well overdue for a makeover! It would be a shame...

I didn't realise they were demolishing the shops too. I lived in the area for a few years in the late 80's & early 90's and drank in the little Crown & Cusion a few times (never in the big one). There was a shop I used a lot that sold baking 'mis-shapes' - not quite round cobs, wonky loaves &...

    Bridge Street/holliday Street Old House

It's taken a lot longer to build - a couple of years - it's just the silver cladding that has gone on since March. Normally, I'd be working directly opposite & so have seen all the Arena Central development go up, included HSBC building. Quite fascinating to watch.

I see all the silver cladding is on the new HMRC building. They had only just starting putting it on when I started working from home.

I think for the vast majority "mixed use" would apply - for instance working at the kitchen table, or (as in my case) a spare bedroom that is also used for personal things.

The office where I work is by Gas Street Basin. Before we moved into a bigger unit across the car park, our office was directly overlooking the basin & it was always entertaining watching the novices try & turn round. The one day it took this one man about 20 minutes to complete the...

    Rotunda

When I was a kid growing up in Solihull, I could see the Rotunda & Post Office Tower in the distance from my bedroom window. I bet there are several other buildings the present occupant of that room can see these days.

    tidy up please

Hello, after photo help again. I have this lovely picture of my Dad, taken when he was 16. At some point it's had something dripped on it (looks like a tea stain). I've only ever known it like this & I am wondering whether someone here has the skills to digitally remove the stain? It's his...

Love these pictures, not only do they show the cottage, they also show what used to be where my place of work is.

Great picture. Hopefully they are clearing all the weeds & brambles out of the garden area to stop any more wall falling down.

So glad to see him bac I don't think so. Would be different if you were running a business from home, but as an employee working from home it doesn't make the property a commercial premises. The business you work for pays the rates. Many people worked from home before & those people didn't...
