You could be right Lyn. I'm just guessing here but 1960 was when the roll was published but the data would have been collected earlier; perhaps even late 1958

    Courtyards and yards of brum

This picture from post #70 - This court is often misidentified as Geach Street as it was adjacent to Geach Street which ran behind the houses off photo on the left. It is actually court 4 (The Barracks), Guildford Street. In the mid 50s we would be looking at: just off picture to the left number...

    Bracebridge Street

Mike, can you help? In the late 50s I used to meet a friend from work and walk her home. On the way to meet her I would pass the Norton in Bracebridge Street on my left. She worked further down in the office of a factory(?) further down on the right. Any suggestions please?

Just a note about the lamplight in the wall in Eden Place behind the wedding group. At some time in the 30s it became an electric light, the house had gas. But my dad and his neighbour new about electric wiring and so two of the houses in the yard acquired electricity. The yard houses acquired...

    Roads, Courts and Terraces ?

Addresses in the censuses are often given as something like court 5 house 2, in these cases the number of the houses at the front aren't given. I am more familiar with addresses like 2 back of 26 Guildford Street. In cases like that 26 was the house on the street on one side of the entry...
