I think it started to snow on boxing day 1963 and was still on the ground at easter. It ruined my first car an old 1939 wolsey, one morning it would not start, when I looked under the bonnet the core plugs were 2 inches from the block on the end of icicles. Most of the building trade was laid...

    Bus Tokens

We moved from Ladywood to Kings Norton in 1956, used tokens for travelling back to St Thomas,s school for about a month until I got fixed up at Brandwood End school. I don,t think you had to be poor to get them every child who used a bus for school qualified for the tokens.

Brandwood Secondary School, Sunderton Road, Kings Heath

Reading these posts makes me feel that I must be one of the oldest remaining pupils from Brandwood. I started there in 1955 just after the school opened and left aged 15 in 1959. In the 1940s/50s I lived in Holliday street and the bridge that carries the canal between gas street and the mailbox was always known as 'under the gullet'by the locals, my sisters and I still use that expression when talking about that area

    Longbridge Factory

I am surprised that there is not more posts about this important part of the history of Bimingham considering that at any one time 20,000 plus people worked there and probably 100,000 depended on it for business so it affected a lot of people in and around the city. I worked there for three...
