    Thank you’s for help

I'd love to get over and see you all again and I've even bought the ideal car for long distance travel but these last two years my wife's health has been very unstable making it impossible to get away for more than a day. The cause of her problems seems to have been BP medication that didn't...

    Studley Street, Sparkbrook

The Alfred Street bomb site was our play ground and collected house bricks that my mate’s dad, Tony Reid, used to build a big extension, he gave an old cycle frame as reward; used it as my first racing bike. Also the bomb site was used for cycle speedway attracting great crowds. Great pics!

    British Subject Born Overseas

I think the first place to start is the British Embassy in Paris https://ukinfrance.fco.gov.uk/en/ Normally all British subjects born abroad must be registered by their parents, if they are British, with the British Consul or Embassy of their land of residence. Hope this helps, Graham.

Dennis Road Secondary Modern Boys School

Hi Tony, It's really good to see you here on the forum. I think that you might remember me from the Dennis Road School of Torture or from Friends Reunited. Your reply was very interesting as naming all those teachers brought back many (bad & sad) memories. I too often went home with...

What was a brass tap dresser?

One of my first jobs was in the brass industry making, mainly brazing, brass gas light fittings for caravans and for homes in the brush that had no electricity. The lighting was controlled by a tapered brass tap, sometimes with a chain, that had to be ground in or dressed so that it would turn...

BHF Xmas Bash (on the day)

So happy to see many made it and had a good time. So sorry I couldn't be with you, the only way I could have made it was with a quick fly in and out but the weather would have messed that up anyway so I'm glad I didn't try. I'm sure there'll be other times when my wife and the weather is better...

    Mermaid Inn Warwick Road.

Astonian, I'm only sorry that I had to leave Brum for good because it had nothing more to offer me in my chosen sport and profession; cycling. I now live in a country that is cycling crazy and as an ex cycling champion the people here hold me in great esteem, that alone made my move worthwhile...

    Mermaid Inn Warwick Road.

When I lived in Brum the Mermaid was the starting point of my annual Christmas Eve cycle bash to Warwick and back. As a kiddie I swore that I'd do that Christmas Eve ride every day of my life little knowing that I'd leave Brum for good in 1966, Graham.:(

    BBC2 Tonight (Monday)

I live in a land of a million dialects and the people are proud of it. In the past my guts turned inside out when I heard so-called "posh" English spoken on the BBC. The recent use of local dialects and accents felt like a breath of fresh air. When are Brummies going to wake up to the fact that...

    Peter walker.

I didn't know Peter other than through BHF, I always admired and looked forward to his postings. It's wonderful to read so many lovely tributes from fellow forum members. My heart goes out to all those friends and family who are left behind with this feeling of emptiness. R.I.P. Peter.
