Bull on the loose in New Bond st Digbeth this morning

This brought to my mind Tommy Steele's "Little White Bull" and the following lyrics seem particularly appropriate: Quickly found the nearest road to town! And people said What a funny little bull What a fluffy little bull He's our little bull He marched along a proud little bull And hit the...

    new peaky series

I have stuck with Peaky Blinders from the start and enjoy the show. It is fiction that is based loosely on some facts and needs to be viewed as such. I do not think it has done the city any harm, rather it has got people talking about the city, who would otherwise have continued to ignore it...

    new peaky series

Tommy Shelby was born in 1890 and given that this new series is set in the 1950s, he would have been in his sixties by then. He appears to have aged a bit better than I have from the above clip.

    Speedway. Perry Barr.

Sad that speedway will no longer be available in Birmingham. Still it makes room for yet further development, so the council will be ecstatic that the sport won't get in the way of their proposals. :(

    Birmingham Cinemas

I took my now wife there to see "Chariots of Fire". It was very sad to see the uses the old cinema was put to, after it had stopped showing films.

    Aston Villa history

Yes, another sad loss Mark. Jake became a driving instructor after he hung up his boots and got many a Streetly youngster through their driving test (including my son). He was a little surprised, that I remembered him from his time at Villa, when I shook his hand before a lesson about 16 years...

    Aston Villa history

Sadly we lost the last of our FA Cup winning team of 1957 on Sunday, when Peter McParland passed away, aged 91. Peter scored both of Villa's goals in our 2-1 Wembley win against Manchester United's "Busby Babes". Peter's brace of goals brought the cup back to Villa Park for what was then, a...

    Erdington

The impact this has on the Cross City line is worth noting. Each time this happens the line is closed both ways whilst safety checks are carried out and then there is the costs of police/fire brigade attendance. I wonder if those responsible are being billed?

    Erdington

Yet again a lorry has struck the low railway bridge on Summer Road, Erdington. Cross City line trains were again suspended on 30th April. See the photograph below, my previous post #693 and the link to the Birmingham Live report of the latest crash: Link...

An Evening with Carl Chinn 3 September 2024

I bumped into Carl at Euston Square Tube Station on Saturday on the way to Wembley (the less said about the game the better). Carl shook my hand with his usual smile. "An afternoon moment with Carl Chinn" and not quite as informative as several evenings I have spent listening to him I admit, but...

    David Bowie in Birmingham

Bowie at the Town Hall in 1972 (photos by Mick Rock who like boilerman was new to the job). Mick shot his very first images of David backstage and then continued to photograph the fledgling Ziggy throughout the show. The pair clicked immediately, and Mick travelled back to Haddon Hall with...

another change to the city centre

& those awful e scooters. Is the aim to make the city centre a no-go zone unless you ride a bike or use public transport? As has been said, I would have thought there were bigger priorities than this.
