    Acocks Green Bus Garage

I am given to understand that my dad, after being evacuated from Dunkirk and discharged due to illness worked at the above bus garage. Is there anyway to confirm this from staff records if they exist. His name was Victor Hood. 1911-1944.

    My Favourite Musical

Up until last week my favourite musical was Barnum which starred Michael Crawford at the time. Now it's Phantom Of The Opera, I saw it last week in London and it was totally enthralling. It even made me cry!! Silly old B....

    The Smethwick Telephone Newspaper.

Does anyone remember The Smethwick Telephone? My step dad used to work there as a compositor up until about 1955. He travelled by bus from Formans Rd Sparkhill daily, it must have been a hell of a journey in those days. I can remember going to a childrens Christmas party at the factory at some time.

    Formans road tornado

Thanks for the newspaper piece Mikejee, it's surprising how all these threads come together eventually. Now I know the name of the lady that was killed outside my Grandmothers shop in Formans Rd. I don't recognize the name but will do further research. Graham.

The Thor Hammer, Any knowledge of the family?

Re: If it Doesn't Work, Belt it with a Thor Hammer! I started this thread hoping to find a branch of my family that had disappeared. Your help guided me to them as they still own the factory and run their business from there. I tried by phone to contact any of the Stephens that were there but...

    Miller Street Newtown.

Just spotted the Miller St thread. My great grand parents lived at No5 Back of 60 Miller St in the 1881 census. They were Henry and Elizabeth Matthews plus 4 kids. Now that I have joined the Miller St gang, may I have a badge please!!! Graham.

    Auxillary Fire magazine "SQUIRT" WW2

What an amazing story. My step father was in the AFS stationed at Court Rd, Sparkhill. The Officer in charge at one time was Harry Bagshaw, dads best friend and best man when he married my widowed mom. I don't know the dates of his service there but will need to find out. His stories about the...

    Ladypool Road.

Thank you for telling me about the thread Cadeau. It reminded me that there was a smaller shop at the southern end of the Ladypool Rd, They sold the secondhand sets that had been taken in part exchange for newer ones, refurbished and sold on. Probably can't do that these days.

    Ladypool Road.

I worked in Ladypool Rd in the early 60's. It was at Richards radio & TV shop, sadly I can't remember which road it was on the corner of. Mr Richards was a short fatish man who was very pleasant and his shop manager was a Mr Tebbutt. Strange how I remember their names but not where the shop...

What Did You Want To Be

Coalmen were needed too Mossy. I retired from my 'job' reluctantly nearly 21 years ago and would go back tomorrow if I could.

What Did You Want To Be

from my first visit to Birmingham on Sea as a child I wanted to be the man that led the donkeys up and down the beach. What bliss walking the sands day after day in the sunshine. No thought was given to the winter time and how I would fare then. As time passed and I listened to the stories of...
