Where in Birmingham was this taken ??

Would this have been Woodthorpe Road, Kings Heath which was on the 18 route?

    Birmingham buses

Yes I think you are correct Tardebigge, looking at the photo closer the bus has the greater radius on the window corners so it cannot be from the 1481 - 1555 series.

    Birmingham buses

1530 was a standard post war AEC/Daimler based at Harborne which presumably had been sold to Andy's coaches.

    A mystery to solve

Hallo Tardebigge, I would say that when 2942 was transferred from Selly Oak to Cotteridge it would have had flashing indicators. Living in Northfield and therefore travelling to town on Selly Oak buses I was very upset when a lot of our Guys were transferred away and replaced with more dreadful...

    A mystery to solve

Hallo again Tardebigge. I notice that both buses have semaphore indicators and I think that the suggestion that they are providing a service to Villa Park has some logic. All of the passengers on 2942 seem to be men and 1525 could be returning to the city after dropping its passengers at Villa...

    A mystery to solve

Hallo Tardebigge, I don't think that's right either. For the first few years of its life 2942 was a Selly Oak bus and that advertisement on the side of the bus was not put on until about 1955. You are correct however, Cotteridge didn't have traffic lights. It certainly is a mystery.

    A mystery to solve

I believe that at the time 2942 was a Cotteridge based bus and 1525 a Harborne bus and I suspect that the photo was taken at Cotteridge with 2942 on a 41 or 45 service and 1525 possibly an extra on the 11 service. Hope this helps.

    New London Transport Buses

I see that the new buses which are to operate in London, those with the open rear exits are to be made in Egypt of all places. What are we thinking of in this country to allow this to happen? I am sure that if they were still in business the best bus manufacturer in the country, the Washwood...

Bangham Pit (what a lovely name) was between Rubery & Allens Cross, sort of!

    BCT Garages

No, Selly Oak Garage was in Harborne Lane at the bottom of Chapel Lane on the Outer Circle Route. There was an old tram depot on the Bristol Road in Bournbrook which became a a wood yard.

From the front yes, they looked awful at the back.

    BCT Garages

I have just picked up on this topic and hopefully the following will be of interest: In the mid 1950's there were 18 service garages in BCT ownership as follows : Selly Oak. Harborne, Quinton, Roseberry St, Hockley, Miller St, Wellhead Lane, Birchfield Road, Washwood Heath, Lea Hall, Highgate...

Probably a Washwood Heath garage blind?

    Regent Motorways Redditch

May I suggest that the photo of LHA329 & KUY722 is not taken outside Needle Industries but outside the Concert Hall at Cadbury's Bournville factory? My father was a member of the Bournville Male Voice Choir and every so often we would go on outings with the choir, normally using two of Regent...

Where in Birmingham was this taken ??

I suspect as 2847 was turning right into Hagley Road it was on service 11c but the conductor hasn't got the first part of the number blind right.

    Lickey Hills

The 62 bus still goes to Rednal but terminates at Leach Green Lane (the stop before the old terminus) as the old terminus is now covered with housing. Trams from other depots used to supplement the Selly Oak based trams on a summer Sunday as was the case when buses took over the Bristol Road...

    Birmingham Buses 1953

I think it was the Guys that had the brake overheating problem but they cut back the wings on all 'tin fronts' as well as removing the wheel discs to help. I persnally preferred them in their original condition.

    Birmingham Buses 1953

Two more photo's of rather poor quality I'm afraid. 2514 on driver training duties at Rednal (70 tram in background) and 2467 at Whittall Street on service 64.

    Birmingham Buses 1953

Some photo's taken with my 'box brownie', two at Rednal featuring 2913 & 2956 the other with 2956. 2927 & 2604. The other one was taken at Bearwood terminus featuring 2227.

    Pines Express 1950's

I would guess via Proof House Junction, Witton & Perry Barr and presumably the loco from Manchester went onto shed to turn or used a triangle somewhere.
