    Harborne Railway

Aye, I do think the line would be well used (I'd use it!) but it wouldn't have the charm of the old line... no signal boxes, sidings or coal trains. Nevertheless, that's still better than what we currently have!

The City of Birmingham - 46235

The description mentions that it is an up Express, so I'd assume that it is going to London Euston.

The City of Birmingham - 46235

Oh right, thanks for the info. Did you visit the old Snow Hill station much, and if so did you prefer it to the old New Street?

The City of Birmingham - 46235

Same here, there was one I noticed regarding Harborne Station whereby it said the footbridge is still in-situ, but sadly this isn't the case.

The City of Birmingham - 46235

Hi, that seems like an odd working for a Princess Coronation Pacific! I've seen a nice colour picture of 46235 at Crewe North Shed in 1958 while wearing "Royal Highlander" headboards. According to the trustworthy folks at Wikipedia, it had a boiler change in 1952.

That's a nice picture, the houses on the right and some further up survive, but the rest is gone!

Ted's Hot Dog Barrow & Others

There's a colour picture of Ted's 'otdogs outside Birmingham New Street from the 1960's, in Birmingham past and present by Mark Norton. https://www.photobydjnorton.com/BirminghamThenAndNow.html

I'm almost certain that you saw an Ivatt class 2 2-6-0 tender engine. These were used on freight services to Harborne between the late 1950's and the line's closure. I'm aware that a diesel shunter was also used towards the end. The Ivatt class 2's took over from the old Midland 2F's which had...

Chad Valley Toy Company Ltd, Harborne

Re: chad valley Hi Astonian, the Harborne railway closed to goods traffic on the 4th November 1963, while the passenger service had ceased 29 years before in 1934, when the line was still operated by the LMS. The factory closed in 1972, and was gutted by fire a year later. The police...

    Harborne Railway

Lol, thanks for clearing that up. Do you remember the class of locomotive that you saw at Harborne station? The line closed to goods traffic on November 4th 1963, the last railtour visited two days before. When the line reached 50 years of closure, I walked past the station site to pay my...

    Harborne Railway

Thanks for sharing, you have some great memories to look back on. I recall reading in a book about the Harborne railway By Derek Harrison, about one woman who remembered hearing an engineering train going past in 1964 . Regarding the footbridge, it didn't appear to be of a lattice design, there...

    Think Tank

I have mixed feelings about the original post, there are plenty of attractions on show such as the Supermarine Spitfire and LMS Princess Coronation Class pacific 46235 "City of Birmingham". However the prices are a bit steep, and some of the exhibits are poorly sited.

    Harborne

I'm aware that the site was used to store cars for scrapping, and the old white house outside was half- demolished circa 2008.

    Harborne

Do many of you remember the Harborne Railway when it was still open. Also, I know that the flats on Forest drive were built in the early 1990's, but I'm not sure what the land was used for before it was redeveloped...

Brum traffic images from 1960s onwards ?

Aye, the Linwood Plant which was set up to reduce unemployment in the 1960's. Alas it shut down in the 1980's.

Brum traffic images from 1960s onwards ?

They were actually posted by oldMohawk. Those pictures are evocative though, and it's nice that the have brought back memories. When people in the future see pictures taken today, they will reminisce as well. It must have been an interesting time to grow up in, sadly I wasn't around then.
