    Springhill Ice rink Summerhill Road

Hello Old Mohawk, thank you for the photo of Terry. Well, my boyfriend must have loved me to buy me those skates. I think they cost about £6 at the time, but that would have been more than a weeks wages in those days wouldn't it?

    Springhill Ice rink Summerhill Road

I have wonderful memories of Spring Hill Ice rink too. A boyfriend who used to go there with me, bought me a pair of ice skates from the shop there, and they are still here with me to this day. I think we have spoken before Baron, about my friend Terry Smith who was a Mohawk.

    Items that have faded away

Carolina, they were still binding babies in hospital in the 1960's. I thought of two items we don't see anymore, Bronco toilet rolls, and Zal disinfectant. Zal used to have their own jungle on TV too.

    Petrol Price's

Shell petrol in Bury St Edmunds, £1.34 a litre. Gosh if ever they put the prices up in gallons, we would all be shocked.

Lodge Road Hockley and (the Flat)

Hello Frank, at last someone who remember Camden St School. To date no Forum member has ever mentioned it. Did you go to the junior school with the Boys Brigade or the Senior School. I went to both of these schools. Yes, I know Icknield St School is still standing. My brother went there. As you...

    Mike Guest

I have only just found out about the death of Mike G, and am so sorry to hear this very sad news. I shall treasure my BHF badge which I got from him personally on a visit to Brum.

Lodge Road Hockley and (the Flat)

We felt much the same as you on our visit frankbck. Icknield St was my area, but it has also gone the same way. My old school, Camden St is just about demolished and what is left (frontage) is a worship hall for some foreign sect.

    Petrol Price's

I know many people who make needless car journey's, even using the car to fetch a newspaper, pop to the Co-op which in our case is just a short walk, and go to the Dr's., when again it's possible to walk. We try, where possible, to use our bikes or walk. The population explosion which we are...

    St Chads Hospital, Hagley Road

Looking at St Chads recently on Google. it looks as though it is still a NHS hospital. It was built in 1915 and was originally the Edgbaston Nursing home. My son was born in that hospital.

    Ear cleansing.

When I was a child I constantly had ear problems. Always an abcess. My step mother used to put a piece on onion heated in front of the fire into my ear. This always burst the abcess, but by golly the pain was awful.

    Central Fire Station Hq

These buildings are such a worry being under threat aren't they? Poor old Brum as lost so much and gained so little in the way of historical buildings. I was disappointed to learn that the 'Coffin Factory' in Fleet St., is to be demolished. What a shame it couldn't have been restored.

    Brummie sayings & language

I can't help but think that this saying was heard in just about every household in Brum. It was one I certainly remember too.

    Items that have faded away

I was looking at Penguin biscuits the other day, and they have shrunk beyond belief, yes I bet the choc is sprayed on too.

    Items that have faded away

Yes, I remember them Mike. They were called 'bones'. My dad always had shirts like that.

    Items that have faded away

I don't remember UNOX pork luncheon meat, but I do remember Dana luncheon meat. They had a jingle on TV singing 'Lets have Dana for dinner, Dana is the big meat meal'

    Brummie sayings & language

One of the sayings in our house was, if they disliked someone, 'I can't abear him'. I often wondered if this was the brummy version of 'abhor'?

    Birmingham in 1950s

It looks as though Roy Jenkins was in favour of a relaxing of laws in general then. What a mistake that was in many ways. When you think that Ruth Ellis was hung for a crime of passion, it makes todays criimes seem to matter not a jot doesn't it? Abortion is ten a penny, homosexuality is...
