    Royal visits to Birmingham

Definitely Maggie, I remember the Queen and the Duke coming down Icknield St in the late 1950's. They went right by the Swan Brand factory, and on towards Hockley.

    St Paul's Square Hockley

Hello Judy, yes I am sure you have seen one of those pics before. Obviously I have quite a few but not suitable for the open Forum as they involve other people. I ain't beautiful anymore though, we take youth for granted don't we?

    St Paul's Square Hockley

How sad rosie that there are no gravestones left. Next time I come to Brum, I must go and have another look around the church. The last time I did there was a Harry Potter thing going on there, so I didn't go in. cookie, I never realized that cars parked on those flag stone, what a shame. It...

Hello Paul, I've just put a couple of pics on of my dad and myself on my wedding day at St. Pauls, Unfortunately, none of the pics show a lot of the church.

    St Paul's Square Hockley

Here is another one of us walking down towards the church. I was surprised to see all those broken flag stones. Haven't looked at these pics for years.

    Items that have faded away

rosie, I know exactly what you mean, it isn't easy to buy a decent painting brush these days either. I had to go on line to find a reasonably good clothes line, as all the one's in the shops are thin rubiishy things. Speaking of still having old things, I still have my two Conway Stuart fountain...

    Slums

Well Stitcher I certainly was, but I did know a few who weren't. They were difficult places to keep clean, as in the one I grew up in, where the only living room was directly off the pavement, and dusty cellars with no door at the top. I remember the TV was often cleaned on the inside glass due...

Viv, I was married at that church, so I will have to dig the photo's out and have a look at the tree's as they were. Hopefully it will show them.

Viv, I think St Pauls is still surrounded by the tree's isn't it? Glad you agree with me Paul about the Cathedral not being as pleasant an area as it used to be when we were young. Such a shame that modernity in that city has spoiled some of the special places we remember.

So what has happened to all the tree's then? I also notice a lot of the flag stones have been taken away and replaced by common slabs. I don't think that area around the Cathedral is a picturesque as it used to be, it's far too open now.

    Items that have faded away

rosie, I had forgotten about those toffee tins with the pic of the kitten or puppy. Yes, the tins were better than the toffee. I also remember the toffee in the trays which they broke with the little hammer. but not the chocolate. Do you remember Palm Toffee which came in a block (ready...

    Royal Coronations : Birmingham response

The photo on the right is the cafe at the bottom of Warstone Lane where we had our jelly fight for the Coronation as children. The picture on the left is the same corner, as it is today. We didn't have a TV to watch the coronation either, but my dad was so upset that I had to go next door to...

    Items that have faded away

I remember cheap chocolate father Christmas's, and they were revolting. Tasted like soap. They were quite big as well, which made things worse.

    A.T.V. at Aston Cross

It was Carolina, and I still think that she was quite a handsome woman. She knew how to do her make up thats for sure. I would imagine she was a bit of a tartar though. Did anyone ever find out why she was sacked from Crossroads? I remember her on Lunchbox too, my stepmother wouldn't miss that...
