    Items that have faded away

I also used to eat those sulphur tablets, I think it was a fashion thing though, because I was one of those lucky blighters who didn't get the spots. I can still remember the taste of those tablets too...horrible.

Thank you Judy and Sparks for coming up with the picture of the scent cards. If I remember rightly they smelled very nice too. They made good bookmarks.

    Garden & Gardening Tips

Trevor, you have the same dilemma as we had because being on the veggie patch we were also reluctant to use 'Round Up', which was what a friend at the garden centre suggested. It was him who said covering the earth for a season would also help, was an alternative. I can see on your pic that the...

    Garden & Gardening Tips

Trevor, we had a similar problem on our veggie patch one year, the weed we had was so invasive and was ruining everything. We had to cover the area with black plastic and leave the ground fallow for one season. We seem to have got rid of it, but those sort of weeds always seem to find a way back...

Good Grief Lyn, imagine that happening today, the teacher would be sacked for abuse/assault. No wonder you never learned to swim.

It certainly is Bobbo, it was one of the most frightening experiences I ever had the day I was pushed in, and if I remember rightly, I went straight home after the shock. It did teach me to swim, but it could have had a much more serious outcome. My guardian angel was with me that day that's for...

    Old street pics..

Oh Carolina, I wish I had gone into the shallow end that day and not the deep end. It's an ordeal I shall never forget. Fortunately, it didn't put me off going swimming which is amazing isn't it? I was just a bit more careful when walking along the side and always tried to walk along when there...

I can't remember using the hairdryer personally Bobbo, but I do remember it, and how fierce it was. As you say great times. When I was a teenager, I got pushed into the deep end of the swimming pool, if you remember the deep end was where we entered ready for a swim. At that time I couldn't...

I think the bakers shop you are trying to remember the name of would have been Baines. They used to have a lot of shops in that area. We had one in Icknield St. Gosh they used to do some lovely cakes and bread too. Hope this is what you mean't Bobbo.

It's the way I remember it too Bobbo. Like you, I also used to get on the number eight bus in Icknield St with my rolled up towel and bar of Lifebuoy soap not forgetting my talc, and go for a lovely bath to Monument Rd. It was a bit spartan though, because the lady used to come into the cubicle...

So sorry you have had all thos trouble Bernard. How things have changed over the years. When this happened to us about 15rs ago, we were insured with Norwich Union (now Aviva), and they paid us without any hassle and no excess either. I realize now how lucky we were.

When I was a child I used to often be minded by an older couple who I called nanna and granddad. I remember that he worked at Rabone's and I believe they made things like metal tapes for measuring, much the same as the one's you see these days that slide into their holder.

A very nice image too Paul. You certainly didn't live far from the park, which must have been an obvious place to walk a baby.

    See Birmingham by Post Card

My dad used to take me there in the school hols. I believe they used to have a bandstand because I vaguely remember sitting on a grass listening to music. Can anyone confirm this for me? Paul, do you remember being wheeled around in your pram then?
