    TV Advertising Jingles (1950s-1960s).

Bernard, it probably didn't do a lot for the over forties either. If it did, it would be even more useful today than ever.

    White Horse Congreve Street

Vic, I often think that the people who destroyed these wonderful Brum buildings, must have been blind. It's just unforgiveable what they have done to our city.

Birmingham Open Air Schools - Cropwood, Hunter's Hill, Marsh Hill and Skilts (excl. Haseley Hall and Uffculme)

Chris I look forward to reading the memoir your friend will hopefully wrote regarding Cropwood Open Air school. I do think what you say about being an older girl there, may have made it more bearable. I also think that if I had been able to have a family visit, it may have not been such a lonely...

Birmingham Open Air Schools - Cropwood, Hunter's Hill, Marsh Hill and Skilts (excl. Haseley Hall and Uffculme)

I was there at least 20 years before your sister Phil, but I am pleased to hear that she was happy enough there. Thank you for finding a photo of the place. I had a no close family at this time, and therefore there were no visitors on visitors day, which I think was alternate Saturdays. So this...

    Various street pics

Yes Sue, it's amazing how the mind plays tricks with the memory isn't it? I remember the street I lived in, a car never came down it. Oh such peaceful times. Very different now, there is a car a minute going by where we live.

    Various street pics

Great pics again Lyn, thank you. Can't believe how old fashioned the cars etc look in 1960. It doesn't seem that long ago to me. With all the streets you have put on here Lyn, there haven't been many with the an attic. The back to back I lived was three stories high. Perhaps there weren't as...

What lovely pics Lyn. How the memories are brought to life looking looking at these. Sadness too, with so much of our Brum destroyed. Thanks for putting them on here Lyn.

Looks as though you finished your birthday in style then Lyn. Glad it all went well, and that everyone had a good time. I like the look of the Bull pub too. Thanks for putting the pics on for us to see.

Newman Bros Coffin Works Fleet Street

Thank you Jean, I bet they couldn't afford to give coffins away, after all they would have been quality wood in those days, with real brass fittings etc.

Newman Bros Coffin Works Fleet Street

Just wonderful Lyn, thank you for taking the trouble to take the pics and then to put them onto the Forum for us all to enjoy. I can't help but think of my dear Grandma Laura working there. I wonder if she had her coffin when the time came?

    Castle Vale

My brother and sister in law lived in Castle Vale when it was first built. They lived in Stornoway Road for a long time. My step mother lived in a flat on Yatesbury Avenue at the same time, I think it was Kemble Tower, possibly no longer there. I remember the school which was called Pegasus too.

Hello janreb, I also remember Pat the sock. She was close to my sister in law, also a Pat, who sold the cooked meats. We were all good friends of Pats, she was a lovely lady.

    Occupations That Have Faded Away

Does anyone remember the man who used to come around sharpening knives and scissors? He always had a little cart which he pushed around the streets which had a seat attached to it. I saw a sharpening man a few weeks ago in a village close to us.

    Uffculme Open Air School

Re: did any one go to uffcome open air school, think it was either Moseley or Kings h I went to Blackwell Open Air school, possibly for a couple of years. I was very young at the time and can't remember, but I hated the place and was so unhappy there. The food was dreadful, burned porridge, and...

Things you said when you was a kid

Thank you Lyn, I am sure you are right about our game of tig and tag and saying Ackey one two three. As you say, it's a long time ago since we played those games.

Things you said when you was a kid

I remember Arley Barley too, but can't remember in what context we used it. Also we used to say Ackey one two three, and can't remember why with that one either. It may have been when we were playing hide and seek and we had to get back to the starting place and bang on the wall.
