    Old street pics..

I agree Lyn, they are smashing pics. Can't believe the state of St Thomas's school, it really is run down isn't it? Looking at the chidren's clothing, perhaps it was early 1950's. Thank you Bernie for posting them.

I have already put my feelings about Cropwood on the Forum, and ,like you, littlemily, I hated the place and found it just as you describe.

    Call the midwife

I also noticed that the blanket was crochet and not knitting. These days knitting isn't as popular as it was in the 1950's and even in catalogues nowadays, I notice that lacy KNITTED cardigans and jumpers are referred to as crocheted. Perhaps a lot of people don't know the difference anymore.

Hello Rosie, sorry I'm a bit late answering you regarding your husbands siren suit, but I was unable to get back onto the Forum for a few days. Thanks for putting the maps on with reference to the building on the corner of Icknield St and Warstone Lane Mike. I lived in Moreton Street, which is just on the map, it's on the left going up Carver St. It shows the houses as they were when I lived there, and I always suspected that ,although...

    Icknield Street

Having grown up in the street off Carver St., I do remember this building, but it was on the corner of Icknield St and Warstone Lane and not Carver St. The buildings opposite was Stoddards Pork Butchers, where my dad worked.
