Hi Brenda...I went to Birches Green Junior school...Mr DG Watson was headmaster...the dreaded Mr Parkes ..who used throw the board rubber at us..scary man..Mr Carr was lovely...can't remember any more..we used to "swim" ...until my breath ran out...then look forward to hot bovril .

Hello AMJ......this reminds me of my young days.I went to Birches Green school,but remember...very vaguely going to the National to play a skittles (it wasnt called that but forgot what it was called....two teams had to knock over the others big wooden skittle)...I'm sure someone will let me...
My Mum used to sit and have lunch ..plus silver service in Grays Palm Room in the late 1940's when music would be played .
Apparently Semprini played there once,but Mum can't remember the surname if the violinist...Henry.

I was thinking earlier about Erdington/Birmingham and wondering why I have never seen photos of the National School.
Reading through this thread I now know. I remember when I was in the Birches Green skittleball team,that we played them.I vaguely remember it being a bit grim and grey...
Gosh!....all these blasts from the past....when I have more time...I will start at the beginning to see how much I remember we have lost.......while we are on the subject....does anyone remember plush nougats? Who made them.....can you still get them?
