I notice on that London Ancestor map they spell CARR's LANE with only one 'r'. My own surname is CARR. I notice these things LOL

I'm sure they all had a bar rail on the OUTSIDE of the pub to help patrons crawl back home!

Maybe the pram has activated the Dead Man's Handle (those of us older truck and bus drivers will know). Perhaps the girl has just realised that she's foot-plunged herself into horse poo? (Moderator, please eradicate the post if too juvenile).

Passages, Alleyways Gulletts and Snickets of Old Brum

and here are two aerial photos of the Holloway Head area, both dated around 1964/65. Maybe it will pass the time for members to try and put a name to any of the streets and many of the old industrial concerns (might be possible to click on each and enlarge, depending on the magnification posted)

Talking of 'animals on the loose in Digbeth" here's a 1963 short video of a bull creating havoc https://www.macearchive.org/Archive/Title/midlands-news-27061963-escaped-bull-in-birmingham/MediaEntry/1048.html Fleeting glimpses of old shops there....were friends on here looking for cafe photos...

Off to town on the 53 bus

Dennis, the third photo from the left (row of shops in black and white) shows underneath the newsagents window a film poster. The poster is for Mr.Topaze which was Peter Sellers only full-length film directing achievement. Here it is in full size/colour...

Peaky Blinders - A world away from Downton!

Will be interesting to hear on the BBC from viewers outside the Birmingham area how the series informed them of Birmingham and its heritage-that's if the programmes are anywhere accurate though. Maybe we could set up a BHF history tours for willing voyeurs of crime in Brum of those years, and...

    Martineau Street

Thats a yes to everything Viv. For those with a little time, there's a photo of Henry's department store-or rather its plot of land-which should pick up Martineau Street in around 1960 also. Just can't find the right thread it appears on.

    Courtyards and yards of brum

But the price of film and developing made these items of great value to us, much more than a computer photo does now to younger people at least. To tear up or dispose of a photo was a criminal act in our family unless of course the photo ended up of course just of the sun or turned out a blank...

    Birmingham Cinemas

To remind friends who had their photos and comments stolen at the time a few years ago-and to inform new members-the Luxor was featured due to its prominent location in Balsall Heath in the 1980 'X' certificate suburban drama 'Prostitute'. Here's the link to the then-and-now site "ReelStreets"...

This will be George Formby SENIOR, Phil. Both father and son took the same stage name, otherwise the George we all knew and loved would only have been around 8 years old then. Unless of course "our" George, like Shirley Temple in later years, was a prodigious child star by then?

An almost identical shot here, just a few years later (1969) with the Queens Hotel/New Street station frontage disappeared and builders struggling to get the 'new' architectural aberration in place... https://www.mirrorpix.com/webgate/preview.php?UURL=824eb6f2c47775a9da6e6d7aaa92903b&IMGID=00456424
