    Bilston Board School. Monmore Green

Re: Cher64 Thankyou for the reply Cher. Unfortunately I'm somewhat educationally challenged with figures so all those dates get a bit intensive. But I will look out for photos of the Kings Hall in around the period I think you specify as i am a great library visitor. Unfortunately too, the...

    England in Colour 1928

I notice the photo of the young boy on a cycle posting a letter. The notice reads 'Time details removed due to correction'. Nowadays it would read 'Removed due to vandalism'. Or am I being cynical?

Re: Cher64 The easy start point Cher is the website of the Local History Consortium of the three West Midlands towns of Walsall, Dudley, and Wolverhampton (in which Monmore Green is situated). I've directly linked you into the website section dealing with names connected with Monmore here...

    Old street pics..

And except for one (the Renault Dauphine) every other vehicle a proud example of British motor manufacturing. Phyllis' pictures are so amazing in their clarity one can almost imagine the scenes of a model village, or part of a model railway setup.

I'm concluding that Etam/Alberta's is to the right on the third photo of one of D.J.Norton's crop of very recent photos https://www.photobydjnorton.com/NewBham/NewBham29.html or is the Etam photo of Martineau Street to the left of the John Collier store?

    Phyllis Nicklin Photos

I do too, Pudding. Phyllis deserves a Hall of Fame recognition at least. The renowned photographers site Magnum captures people stylistically in the moment, but Phyllis recorded our buildings-and their people-just naturally. The exhibition at BMAG- will this be permanent or a short-term...

    Shaw Taylor RIP

Via my connections with people cinema/TV history wise, have learned today of the passing of Shaw Taylor, today Wednesday 18 March. Not much time to comment this late at night but give BHF members the chance to view today's internet version of the Isle of Wight News, the region where Shaw Taylor...

    Measurements

I remember the red exercise books too. On the back each weight had its own compartment. Good quality paper too, embossed in some way to give the red colour some kind of high-class touch.

    Paradise pre development 2014 -2016

John Ball's Birmingham Memories site has just very recently added a group of photographs regarding the previous demolition/rebuilding of this very patch of land. Not much to differentiate with the earthworks and dumper trucks but tiny bits of Charles Street do confirm the location. The new...

Maybe the two sets of scales were one for those going "in" to enjoy the fayre and the the "out" to indicate how swelling the fayre had made the indulger? Alternatively, one set of scales was the the gents and the other for ladies? (with the ladies' scales 'adjusted' in order not to reveal an...
