    'take Me High' Film Locations

Hi there Kevin, i was a major collector of film memorabilia during the 1960's and 1970's:film posters, LP records, fan magazines, everything. As far as "Take Me High" was concerned I remember only to having all the newspaper advertisements (London press usually) and the film critics' reviews...

Lyn, is it businessmen put up overnight at the Copthorne when the Metro packs up (again) waiting for news of pigeon s**t on the overhead cables?

    Birmingham from the air

Later on in 1963 if not early 1964, Ragga. The MACE archive has a mini-video regarding the building of the Rotunda. In the video, the structure is only half-way up and the old Market Hall not yet demolished and that is dated September '63; whereas in the postcard the Market Hall has come down...

Passages, Alleyways Gulletts and Snickets of Old Brum

    Backstreets Glories of old Brum...

I think the photo of the boy-and other photos of unattended children throughout the Borough-were a gift to the developers to illustrate how reckless Birmingham had become and needed a good knocking-down. By them and at a serious price also!

Passages, Alleyways Gulletts and Snickets of Old Brum

And here IS a broader picture of Old Square with the Casino prominent. Watermark of providing website retained for copyright purposes. The Lower Priory ahead in your photo Dennis; is that where the Shalimar and the other Indian restaurant were situated in an earlier "alleyways" picture?

    Spiceal Street & Edgbaston Street

I've just done a rummage through the index on the mini-video documentary site MACE ARCHIVE, and there are just two snips so far which show Spiceal Street at or near its junction with Edgbaston Street during the 1950's owing to its proximity to the church (opposite)...

    Spiceal Street & Edgbaston Street

Aidan, i have a photocopy of a book picture of that junction in 1938.Its a side-on view of the corner premises since the focus is intended to be Jamaica Row which was/is the continuation of Spiceal Street the other side of Edgbaston Street. There was a whole sequence of shoe shops running down...

    Where is This? #189

No 189 Revelation No need to go right up to the 9.am deadline as it appears everyone is a winner with this one. Yes, its Mr. Douglas Copley of the Waggon and Horses on Coventry Road, Sheldon. The date is January 1937 if one is to believe the description. Allegedly the vehicle in question is...

    See Birmingham by Post Card

Viv, the date listed by the respective photo-archive is 1962. Not every detail on every register is always perfect but I think this is as good as.

    See Birmingham by Post Card

That is correct Georgie. We are building up a door-by-door picture ofCorporation Street very efficiently now.Only a few hundred pictures more to go. Just meant inadvertantly having to hi-jack the threadstarters purpose all those years ago. Maybe one of the Moderators could shift everything over...

....and keeping the Corporation Street/See Birmingham by Postcard (LOL) thread going, here's the clock in Angela's picture from the other side and at ground level. A bit of the then "newish" C and A on the left. Photo (copyright mark kept) from a major international photo-newspaper website.

Georgie, here's the correct ref. no of Jennyan's posting LOL www.francisfrith.com/birmingham/photos/corporation-street-c1960_b100054 I know that this might be turning into a Corporation Street thread, but otherwise I might lose all my customers. Here's yet another photo of Corporation...

    See Birmingham by Post Card

Its the original colour postcard (not my posting) in which you can see Lewis's as the white building on the left. Eventually Rackhams ran (as it still does) all the way along from the front door of Dolcis (with the Cobden above) to the corner of Bull Street where it originally had its front door...

    See Birmingham by Post Card

Another brainwave. Here's the Royal Institute of British Architects' photo-portrait of the Cobden plus Dolcis downstairs. The whole building-without Dolcis I expect (!) was built in 1883 by one William Doubleday (1846-1938). Date of this picture is 1955.

    See Birmingham by Post Card

Here's the very picture of the Cobden about to be demolished. 1957 it is. Part of the name Dolcis is still remaining. Sorry can't to much better in a hurry without a proper scanner. Richie.

    See Birmingham by Post Card

The hotel on the left is the Cobden, part of which had the top part of Dolcis. The original bit of Rackham's is on the left next to the parked (?) bus. The Cobden and everything on the left was swept away in Rackams massive expansion in 1959. Have pictures but it may take a few days to find...
